First time fired and my XD already jammed :(

I took my Springfield XD 40 to the range for the first time, Sunday, and I think the 3rd round jammed. I looked down and the action was open with a round halfway loaded. All I had to do was pull the slide back a bit and let it go to finish loading but that really doesn't seem right to me. It shot smoothly for the rest of the 100 rounds I fired, even if I didn't.

Anyone else had problems with the Springfield XD line jamming?

On the other hand, my Sig 556 Patrol SWAT shot beautifully. I've only shot guns a few times now but I'm getting better each time. The only shot that wasn't in the black (at a sad 25 yards) was when my friend was aiming for the number 9 for fun. The second shot disappeared the 9. Was pretty cool.

Try a firmer grip on the XD, a limp wrist could cause jamming, see if that helps.

meh ... nothing especially unusual about that. My first Glock17 FTF about every 10 rounds for the first few mags, and then ran like a top for years.

Sometimes guns need to break in. It could also be the ammo.

my XD was the same way, jammed a couple of times during the first one or two magazines. After that it has been flawless.

OAL of the bullet may have been too short? even factory ammo doesnt all come in perfect OAL.

I had a xd-9 and it constantly jammed. Tried to rule every possible thing out but the gun was just a jam-o-matic (it was a early XD so it had finish problems amongst other things) so I just got rid of it. From what I hear they worked out all the bugs and XD's are top notch. I got rid of mine and got a glock 17 and fell in love now I'm on my 10 day wait for a glock 26. I would say it could be limp wristing but a typical jam for limp wristing would be a stove pipe jam not a FTF (if thats what your explaining). What kind of ammo were you using? Could just need a break in try running a couple hundred rounds of FMJ's through it before you start trying to feed it a steady diet of hollow points.

I was using Remmington UMC .40. I had no idea having a limp wrist could make a gun jam, though I'm sure I didn't have one. The first time I read that line I thought he was making fun of me.

I've never had a FTE/FTF with my XD40 and I have fired over 2000 round.

Haha no. Limp wristing can result in stove pipe jams. I could make my glock jam every single shot if I shot extremely limp wristed. You said it didn't feed correct right? As in it got stuck on the feed ramp? Thats not a typical jam for limp wristing. I suggest you just run a couple hundred rounds through it and see how it goes. Eliminate all factors Shooter,Magazine,gun. If it keeps jamming use a new mag and see if that changes anything.

yeah, if you allow the pistol to come back toward you too much, you can lessen the relative distance the slide travels, causing a jam. its rare, but it can happen. as for a ftf or chambering issue, i have put 600 through my xd .40 flawlessly. but i wasnt using the ammo you were. could be the ammo, could have just been one of those little pistols gremlins, put another 500 through her and see if you encounter any more problems.

The newer XDM in this video jams twice, 1st at 4:00 and 2nd at 9:19
The problem was corrected later with some lubrication

Never had an issue in about 1500 rounds. Not one. XD .40 Tactical.

New gun and 1 FTF in round 3 of 100? That does not equate to a problem in my book. Shoot some more and enjoy your gun. Allow it to break in for about 300 rounds and as some have already mentioned, just be aware of the wrist/grip concern - limp wristing. Enjoy your new gun.
