    Picking up gp100

I'm picking up my ruger tomorrow finally and had a quick question about "breaking" it in, do you just sit there and keep pulling the trigger dry firing it to smooth out the trigger or is there more to it.

Use snap caps..but ya. Dry firing it will eventually smooth it out a little.

      No break in required.........
Clean it, shoot it, & clean it when you get home.
Rugers definitely need a trigger job, skip the dry fire & do it / have it done, you'll be happy you did!

I figure I'll sit there and dry fire with the snap caps fo a lil bit til I can go out shooting and I do want a trigger job just don't wanna have to send it out lol. As for snap caps, I've never seen one wth are they?

Eventually = Thousands of trigger pulls

Just saying. It's fine to dry fire for practice and to get used to the pull, but it would probably be easier to just take it out and start shooting it.

I have a GP 4" stainless and after about a year of shooting it I decided to put in lighter springs and lightly polish a few pieces like the tip of the hammer strut and connecting parts of the hammer. I did not fully disassemble the trigger assembly I took it out as one piece to change the trigger spring. The double action on it now is very smooth and easy to pull and the single action is real light it makes it much easier to shoot and a little more accurate.I bought the Wolff spring pack from Midway.http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=303418
The two hardest parts to do were putting the hammer strut spring on and getting the trigger assembly out of the frame. Also you might want to get a HiViz front sight. Redhemi, here's my baby

I have a GP100 and you might want to take the grip off and clean the mainspring and it's touch points. Clean that and the locking mechanism on the wheel itself. With both of those clean (I used CLP but Hoppes works great too), my GP100 trigger is smooth as butter...but I do have 1000+ rounds through mine.

Congratulation on the purchase! Its a good, heavy-duty/hard-use gun. I have one that I bought around Feb. 2009. It is a 4 inch stainless, and it is a keeper for me.

Like what datsunhybrid said, just shoot it a lot with the ammo you like, and soon enough it will be a " slick " shooter. From the rugerforum.net, I ordered " Iowegan's IBOK ", it is a pamphlet that shows the inner workings of the GP 100. Frankly, I didn't do any of the suggested things in the pamphlet to improve my GP 100, just shot it some. I enjoyed more without the unnecessary additional expense.

                    Enjoy your GP 100!

Thank you for the GP100 FAQ sheet. I just bought my first wheel gun, and I knew I wanted the GP100. This is a great gun, I will never sell it unless I can find the stainless version to replace it with. (I have the 6"blued version). First trip to the range a couple weeks ago with it, and it was awesome! Waaay more accurate than I am!

Aww I'm jealous! a gp100 6in blued has been sitting really high on my list lately! Don't dry fire it much without dummy rounds in it. Go and blast away with it! Its great knowing that it will eat any ammo you give it and just keep on chugging.
