Got to play with a Gen4 Glock 17 today. No i didn't get to fire it. But saw it at a local Gun shop. Don't ask me where... It had the smallest of the adjustable backstraps on it.
The mag release is a little closer to the center of the grip which makes it easier to release the mag. That could also be an issue if you accidentally hit it and dropped a mag if you have big hands like I do.
The texture is not as rough as the RTF framed guns.
The Recoil Spring assembly and guide rod are all metal and was a double spring set up.
Everything else was the same as far as I could tell.
I also compared it to a 3rd gen and of course my favorite glock frame a 2nd gen G22 with the flat front strap without finger grooves. Side by side to me there was little felt difference in the way the Gen 4 pointed or felt. It may be different for you but the grip was really for me no different. I can't imagine shooting it would prove any different for me either...
I'm glad I got to do this because now I could care less about getting a Gen 4 Glock. I'm not holding my breath that CA will ever let them in and now I know there is no benefit for me to the Gen 4 over what is already out there. Fact is for me The 2nd Generation Glocks are the ones that I prefer the best no front finger grooves! My 1989 G19 is my perfect glock.
Of course this is just one mans opinion... but thought if you were on the fence waiting for a Gen4 to come up for sale... It's much to do about nothing for me... YMMV
