    S&W 642 Pro Series / Power Port

    Anyone familiar with this gun?

I'm curious to know if the extra 1/4" of barrel over the standard J Frame snub 1 7/8" barrel helps at all in accuracy and muzzle velocity?

I'm also curious about the porting. It's different than S&W's magna porting in that the power port is on the top of the barrel instead off to the sides. Does this port significantly decrease verticle recoil? Does the flash out of the hole impair the shooter's sight picture, especially in low lighting setting?

Would love to hear all around opinions about the gun as well.

    It's too late, it's over.

I have one of these and it's a pretty purpose-built gun. I can shoot .38 spl out of it and not really be in pain after compared to shooting .357 mag out of my cousin's airweight.

Can't compare to a 642 without the port but I have to assume it's doing somethig as you can see the exhaust gasses escaping from the port. This also causes a lot of muzzle flash so for low-light defense situations I use SD ammo that has less flash/smoke.

Cool gun. I'd buy it again.

I doubt it's actually any extra barrel....most likely just the port (which will be larger than the bore diameter)
