LEOs and people with CCW come in

What is your favorite most comfortable smallest gun you like to carry, with which holster?

I am in the market for an off duty gun, tired of lugging around the department Glock 22 in the plastic Fobus holster.

I was thinking of the Kahr MK series in .40 cal.

For small and comfortable that would have to be the S&W 342PD in an ankle holster. The only problem is you really can forget that it's there.

Question? Does you Dept have a list of approved back up pistols you can carry on duty? If it does, maybe choose from the list or the most natural thing is to go with the G27 sub-compact. Uses the same magazine & has the same controls so it cuts down on the learning curve.

We can only carry Glock 22/23 on duty. Off duty we can carry what ever we want.

I prefer a semi auto. I was thinking of the Glock 27(most of our guys carry those off duty). I kinda want something different. If all else fails, I will go with the 27.

              Colt Mustang .380,
              Colt Pocketlite .380,
              Colt Gov't .380,
              or my Kimber Ultra .45

The Mustang is my fav. I have a G27 on mine too, but its just to fat. I am a BIG guy 6 ' 7 240 lbs, and I like the smaller ones, easier to hide.

I have the Kahr mk40 its a nice peice also, mine is older, all stainless, so its a little to heavy for my taste.

Also check the Kahr P9, or PM9. I'm considering a PM9 w/ Desantis pocket holster for pocket carry since it's really tiny. Pretty much same as your Glock 22, point and shoot.

I drop my PM9 into my shorts pocket all summer long. If you want a .40, go with the PM40 and pocket holster or Galco Ultra Deep cover IWB holster.

I change my off-duty carry weapons depending on mood. As you can see from my signature, I have several. What I'm carrying today, which are my smaller guns...

                    S&W 642 in Uncle Mike's ankle holster;

                    and
S&W 640 in Fobus paddle, but other times an Uncle Mike's Kydex belt model, or a DeSantis shoulder holster.

BTW, do not bother with a Galco Cop 3-Slot for these S&W Centennials. The thumb strap isn't fitted well, although it might work better with an exposed hammer S&W J-frame. I'll probably find a needy fellow to give that holster away.

Yes, I generally carry two guns off-duty as well as on-duty.

Yes, we all know many counties in California are very restrictive. So I'm guessing you're not LEO or one with a CCW, to whom "franco802" intended this thread. Don't give up and keep up the pressure on the lawmakers. Otherwise, consider moving to a more CCW-friendly state in the future. Even we LEOs and other CCW holders, although exempted from some of the policies/rules, are subject to some overly-restrictive gun laws.

From what you've described, your knife sounds legal, unless you're carrying that knife on school grounds (ref. PC 626.10). Otherwise, I suspect the police, to whom you spoke, was mistaken in your case. Also, check out PC 12020, for more knife-related laws.
Edited to add PC 171b(a)(3) which prohibits knives with blades >4" in public buildings. I suspect PC 171b is the law in which the University police are being concerned.

ah yes, move, thanks for the advice. I'lll get right on that and tuck my tail beteween my legs and leave the state that I grew up in. Great. Thanks for the understanding.

the law makers are not making the restrictive issurance policies, the anti-CCW police chiefs are. So as far as I am concerned, the police is the problem.

When I'm faced with the threat of arrest I take it seriously. I had the penal code in my hand while talking to the police and they declared they would arrest me and let the DA sort it out.

Nothing is more of a slap on the face than having a cop telling a civie to move somewhere else when the civie merely wants legal self-protection and he is barred from doing so due to the policy of the police chief.

                          +100 to what you said.

Even though I could receive a CCW in Calif I really don't want one here I have my CCW from Nevada and thats enough for me. I have my reasons.

I am in plain clothes, and although my primary weapon is a Glock 19, I prefer carrying my Glock 26 on and off duty. It sits in a Galco Summer Classic IWB and hides comfortably under either a t-shirt or formal shirt. On the days I have to spend in a suit, it still sits comfortably on my hip.

I carry a S&W J frame 640 with a galco ankel holster. I got tired of carrying my glock and my xd with a inside the waistband holster. The only time I carry those is when I go places outside of southern oc.
