First day with my first hangun

Having recently learned that buying a handgun in California wasn't all that onerous and shooting locations for them are plentiful in Orange County I decided to pick one up.

After taking a hands on safety class, settling in on a S&W 686 I paid my money and waited my time. Time expired last Saturday, here she is the happy new arrival at home:


After a quick cleaning I took her down to the firing range in Huntington Beach:

All in all the results were so-so as you might expect. Here's my best target of 18, six shots each at 7 yards:


After another cleaning and the realization I'll need to practice...


there was nothing else to do but wait for the UPS man:




With luck I'll be a little better after shooting through that pile.

I'm picking up another 2000 rounds from another Calgunner on Friday. That should get me through a couple of weeks.

A quality revolver lasts a lifetime, a few days is just a rounding error. Hang tough.
