    Most Desirable 1911 frames ?

I wanted to know what the most desirable frames are at various price points for the 1911. I know the Wilsons are probably the most desirable but they are expensive too. How about the Caspian and STI frames? Rail or no rail ?

I would also like to know who has the best prices.

    Thanks !

I'd pay up to 1K for an STI frame with a rail. $900 for an extended dust cover and $800 for a standard. I've done it before. Why not another.

I paid $250 for 2 Caspian in-the-white steel frame and $200 for a Caspian stainless frame with the rail. I put them together and the pistols shoot really well.

Union switch and signal, and Singer are probably the most rare....

Bob Marvel uses Caspian frames, can't beat that with the deals you can get on them.

Ok Caspian resounds. Sti scores. Wilson not worth the ticket price ? Also, suggestions on a good price/source to have them shipped to my ffl. Or should I have the ffl order them direct from someone like Brownells assuming i can get a discount of some sort. Any suggestions?

STI, SVI, Caspian, Les Baer. I think Race gun double stack frames are probably the most desirable.

All the above are good. Also checkout Fusion Firearms. Best bet is to buy direct if the manufacturers have them in stock, otherwise Brownells is an option but you're not going to get any kind of a discount unless you're a gunsmith or LEO.

I also saw Fusion. Read the "about us"....very impressive bio. I like the way they sell pre-fit kits but that get expensive, fast. Same with Wilson's matched slides. Anyway, I was impressed with the Fusions but there is not much on the forums to back them, with my limited research.

basic answer, unless you are roster exempt (LEO), you can't get one to make into an handgun.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Thanks, that's what I thought, just wanted to check when I saw it suggested to the OP.

I can actually do off-roster pretty easily because I can have my Father transfer it to me from out of state if I really want something (as long as it's compliant of course).

note that the OP doesn't live in CA at the moment. So the roster does not apply to him.
