Is a .50 cal. Desert Eagle Illegal in Cali

My brother bought a .44 cal. Desert Eagle last week. Now he's considering getting the .357 and .50 cal barrels for it. If he configures it for .50 cal., will that make the firearm illegal? Those who are in the know, let me know so I can pass the info to him.

The .50 isn't illegal. It's just not on the roster to get to the DROSing part (unless it's PPT). Mods after you get it home are fine. So convert away.

No.. The .50AE is not on the CA approved list, but are legal here. Get the .44Mag then just buy the .50AE barrel with a magazine.

+1 for this. Tell him to get the .50 AE barrel, install it, and show pictures of it.

you would have to buy the 50ae upper and mag and switch it out the 44mag.
My uncle finally got his after waiting 3+ months.

Taken directly from the calguns.net California Handgun Flow chart:

              10. Does the firearm have a bore over .50" that is not a smoothbore barrel designed for a fixed shotgun shell? If so, Violates 26 USC 5861 if not properly possessed per 27 CFR Part 479

So you guys tell me Does the .50 AE have a bore over .50"??? Before you all rush and say, it's .50" so it isn't OVER .50" how sure are you? are you sure it isn't .5000001" if so it appears to be illegal.

It's not over .50" calm down. It's legal.

.50AE is legal in California, since it does not meet the dimensional requirements of the CA .50 BMG ban, nor federal issues regarding destructive devices.

The issues with a.50AE Desert Eagle comes with the roster - the only approved model is the .44 Magnum model, but that only covers the firearm at the time of purchase. After purchase, you can freely convert it to any lawful cartridge (including .50 AE).

You may be right but expect a hell of a lot of hassle from the first cop that finds your ".50 cal". pistol I also wouldn't imagine the da would let you go without trying every angle to get u.

The ban is specifically for .50 BMG RIFLES. If a LEO can't differentiate between a .50 BMG rifle and a .50 AE pistol, we have much more serious issues at hand...

If this is the case then someone needs to edit the calguns flow chart.

What part? The part that says you need to drop this subject because its legal and you're picking at something that is just stupid?
