Taurus 1911 handguns

Since 1911's are so hard to come by, does anyone have any opinion on the Taurus? How does that compare to a springfield or a Kimber? I see that they are way more affordable..by about $300-$400 bucks. I also checked and didn't see the exact Model# on the "list". Does that mean that it would be illegal to import it to Kali?

Taurus 1911s are not on the approved list.

So, a CA FFL dealer can only transfer them via LE sale or PPT or out-of-state intra-familial gift.

Add an extra $200-400 to the MSRP, in order to account for the "CA premium" for off-list handguns.

If you want an excellent low cost 1911, then get a (Armscor) Rock Island Armory 1911. They can be had around $350-550, depending on configuration. They are also better made (quality, fit & finish, reliability) than the Taurus 1911s.

I have a Taurus PT-1911 that I bought when I lived in NV. I don't have a single complaint with it, at all. Has several thousand rounds through it now-a-days, and after an initial hiccup or two with HP ammo when I first bought it - not a single issue.
It might not say Kimber or Wilson on the side of it but I really am hard pressed to find a serious fault with it. The ONLY thing I think needs some improvement is the finish. Something a little more durable would be nice.

Bottom line - absolutely worth the money. Excellent gun. They could charge considerably more then they do and it would still be a good buy compared to the price of more 'high end' 1911s.

for the op sake, if he can get his hands on the taurus, then get that since it is harder to get into this state. but if like me, i got the ria tactical. great pistol, almost 1000 rds through it with no hiccups at all.

I have a PT 1911.

It's a great gun, shoots well, sturdy construction, loves ammo like a fat kid loves cake.

It's off roster so I sent money to my dad, had my pop buy it on Auction Arms, then send it to me from West Virginia. Did an inter familial transfer, presto change-o, a PT 1911 in my safe. Paid 573.00

You can find an already in state Armscor/RIA for a bit less I'd reckon.

I finally got to shoot one.It shot very good and was accurate.Fit and finish appeared to be fine.I would buy one if I had the chance.

Taurus is very hit or miss with thier guns, if you get a good one its very good. But if you get a bad one its very bad. Thats why most people either love them or hate them, not too many in the middle.

I got a good PT1911SSAR. It has been absolutely reliable from day one, it is not as accurate as my other 1911s but it is still a very straight shooter. It filled a need for me (home defense 1911 all steel with a light rail at under $600) The fit and finish is not as nice as my Kimbers, you can see plenty of tool marks on the parts but it is solid and dependable.

I agree, I do not have a PT1911 but have a PT911, low quality, play everywhere, barrel has low grooves, accuracy just average, hard to get 4" group at 10 yards.
