    XD40 Subcompact or M&P Compact .040?

What would you rather have for CCW/back up gun?
Comparing the Springfield XD Subcompact & the S&W M&P Compact. Please give opinions/likes/dislikes

I have carried the XD40 subcompact for the last few years (in a rotation with a Kahr CW9 and Kimber 1911). I trust and like it very much. It is a fantastic gun (if you practice with it) that is capable of excellent accuracy at self defense ranges. It does get a bit "snappy" shooting single handed from a low hold coming out of the holster. My then 12 year old son started shooting USPSA a few years back with it and did quite well with it's 3" barrel (he now shoots an XD Tactical with 5" barrel and likes the increased sight radius... but it wouldn't be a good CCW gun). I have limited experience with the M&P, but the individuals I have "coached" at indoctrination classes seem to not care for the magazine disconnect etc. So my biased vote would be for the XD40.

I like the feel of the M&P more. To me, the XD feels, for lack of a better explanation, top heavy. But like everything else, its all preference.

What's your main handgun? Maybe get a compact version of that so you can use the same mags/ammo.

Or if its for CCW, check out the slim Kahr(s).
