    S&W MP45 Help!!!

    Hi Calgunners,

I just picked up my Brand New Smith & Wesson M&P 45 from Turners and noticed a slight gap mainly in the front of the muzzle between the frame and slide of the pistol.

Does anyone know if this is normal? Apparently when I initially purchased this handgun, I didn't notice and my have overlooked to see if there was a gap between frame/slide to determine if this was how the handgun was made.

Any help is surely appreciated... Was gonna take her out to shoot today but then kinda was concerned about the gap and decided to wait and get opinions from actual owners of this model handgun.

Here is a picture of my new purchase...

    You are fine.
Mine is just like yours, but it has 1200 rounds through it.
The only thing she does't like is my 200gr SWC, but I can save them for my 1911s.

Seems to be more of a gap on yours. Here's mine for comparison (sorry for the phone camera pic):

From your pics, it looks slightly out of battery. The guide rod seems to be protruding outward a little more?

Have you field stripped it yet?

        @ SR-60

Yup, I field stripped it and when I installed the slide back onto the frame, I inadvertently installed the slide incorrectly by managing to get the slide on the two front rails only.

I then removed the slide and reinserted the slide back to the frame to fit on the two front and rear rails.

Hope that didn't mess up my gun "yikes" but being a .45acp I know the tolerance should be much greater as I didn't even use any force to get the slide off.

From the side, take a look at the lack of a gap between the slide and the frame near the backstrap and compare it with the gap between the slide and the frame near the rail. It looks like the slide slopes upwards just a bit.

After searching online regarding frame to slide gaps, it apparently seems common among some of the the M&P.

Although it also appears that gaps varies by pistols with some having noticeable gaps and some with less.

I'll probably take her out tomorrow and try out. Just hoping that shes safe to shoot.

Looked at mine also and mine looks more even from front to back of slide. Yours seem to have a bit more gap on the muzzle area. But noticed that yours has the manual safety, so don't know if that has anything to do with it. But if it runs and feels right when you rack the slide, and the rails look even, I'm sure it's normal.
