Amateur Gunsmithing

This is my gunsmithing work. I put together this pistol with a Caspian frame, Colt slide assembly which I already had and some parts from the Brownell's. It took some effort to fit the slide to the frame, but finally done. The barrel, bushing and slide fit is very tight, also. The target was shot at 15 yards with 20 rounds off hand.

(whistles and looks up at sky...) No no, I would never try to do any gunsmithing related work on my kitchen table... especially not two days ago...
Strangely I noticed monday though that my Saiga somehow converted itself to pistol grip
However that happened I think it turned out pretty sweet, so I guess I will just leave it that way.

In all seriousness though, how are people supposed to learn how their firearms work if they don't take them apart and put them back together? Sure people are going to make some screw ups sometimes, but the same can be said for working on your own cars, computers, home, etc.Last edited by stix213; 05-05-2010, 4:13 PM.Comment

Taking apart and assemble is one thing. Once they hack it with Dremmel tool and files and so on without knowing what they are doing, it is a problem. I rarely use Dremmel tool.In all seriousness though, how are people supposed to learn how their firearms work if they don't take them apart and put them back together? For the same reason, I never work on my car. I have a mechanic for it. I don't know enough to mess with it.

and as for me, i work on my own car, house, plumbing, electrical, with most things i can do myself of feel capable of, i tackle. the only way i was able to do any of those is because someone showed me, or i learned from my own mistakes. but you dont see me begging for sympathy if i screw something upTaking apart and assemble is one thing. I resemble this remark. just put some ugly new "cocking serrations" in my RIA's slide trying to get a dovetail rear sight in. and my "drop in" beavertail is sticky when the hammer is uncocked.
But, I'd feel worse if it were a more expensive gun, or if the thing was impossible to fix. As it stands, as much as I love my RIA, at the very worst I could replace it for not too much money--plus, I learned a pretty good amount about the 1911 by just taking it apart.
that said, yeah i'm sure i'll help some local gunsmith pay the bills at some point in my future.Comment
