Sig P226 New mags 10th Round Loading

So I ordered a couple brand new 10rnd .40 cal mags from TGS. 1-9 load pretty easily, but the 10th round is hard as heck to load. I have to use a pen to push that sucker down in order to load the 10th and even then it was pretty difficult.

Does the spring wear down eventually or should i work out my thumb muscles? I can't feel my thumbs right now.

I have a P226R (chambered in .40S&W) and "a number" of Sig factory mags. (How many is disclosed on a need-to-know basis.) The mags were purchased from several different vendors over a few years. All of my mags will accept 9 rounds only. I can jam a 10th round in, but it won't function properly. Over time, same thing. I have learned to live with 9 round mags for this pistol.

Search some old threads. Several other Calgunners have had the same issue. If a recall correctly, there are other after market mags that will accept 10 rounds.

I had similar difficulties w/ new mags (9mm). It got better over time. It's why I use the Uplula mag loader.

+1 for Up-LULA. Best thing ever made to load magazines, especially the 10rd factory mag for Glock or SIG.

The new SIG mags are made by MEC-GAR which is different form old SIG mags that has the zig-zag line in the back. I do not own any 10rd MEC-GAR mag but all my older 10rd SIG mags break-in over time. I can pop that mag into a slide closed gun with all 10rds loaded, no problem.

same problem here but with 9mm and after 2000 rounds its still hard to get the 10th round in the original factory mags, just buy some mec-gar mags they are awesome.

Thanks for the replies and tips guys. I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I just ordered an uplula.

I had this problem as well with a 9mm p226r, but was able to load the last round after taking out the spring and flipping it around which let it compress a few mm further. It's since become much easier over time with the mags that I keep loaded for HD.

-- I myself had / have a hard time loading the tenth round on all the magazines that I have for my new Sig initially. It took me about a week to stretch the springs out by keeping them loaded with 9 rounds each all the time. It's still hard to load the 10th round but it's doable now and it doesn't cause any malfunctions anymore. I say give it time.

What I did with my 10rd mags was: Load the painful 10th round, push the mag into the gun hard and just let it sit there if I am not shooting it. Generally that will take care of the 10th round problem after a month or so.

Thats funny, because I use an Uplula as well. Don't use brand new .40 mags during a match. I had a problem with the mags seating and feeding on my P229. After about shooting one or two hundred rounds through each mag, it started to work reliably. Its still a pain to get the last round in there though.

You may want to invest in the standard capacity magazine follower(s).

Have you also noticed that a mag packed with 10 rounds won't seat into the gun if there is a round in the chamber? I've learned to live with it. I love my Sig P226EQ
