    Looking for a 10 round 9mm 1911.

Hello, I was looking for a 1911 with the following traits. Since there are way too many option, I figured I would let you 1911 aficionados throw their 2 cents in.
(Just FYI, I usually shoot a Sig P220R SAO. I would like a P226 with the exact same setup but alas, its either too expensive or not available to us inmates of Kalifornia).

    1. Chambered in 9mm with a 10 round capacity with an extended mag well.
    2. Stainless Steel Slide and Receiver
    3. Adjustable Match/Target Sights. (No stupid 3 dot sights).
    4. A 5 or 6 inch barrel.
    5. Must be on the Ridiculous CADOJ Safe Gun List.
    6. Would like it to be under $1000.
    7. Would prefer SAO.
    8. It has to be somewhat reliable.

    Does such an animal exist?

It would start by looking for the weapon itself. Based on your criteria, the Kimber Stainless II 9mm and Springfield P9134L are on the approved list but can be hard to find at times. The other items you mentioned are upgrades and can be purchased/installed at a later time i.e. magwell. Both come with adjustable rear sights and are SAO, both are SS and both are 5" barrels. There are a handful of quality manufacturers of 10-round 9mm mags. I like the ones made by Tripp Research, they've been the most reliable 10-rounders for me.

Unless someone has one for sale with said upgrades already done, it'll be a long search (if one even exists) for CA legal pistol with everything you are looking for. Good luck with your decision.

      Springfield Armory PI9134L
Meets numbers 1-5 and 7 and 8. Not sure about the price though.

I believe the Kimber is over your price limit so that leaves the Springfield by itself. I got mine late last year for a little less than $1k. Either way you have to be patient if you want a Kimber or S.A. 1911 in 9mm. They are both hard to find.

Agreed, except the 10 rd capacity. Springfield factory magazines are only 9 rounds. You'll have to get aftermarket mags for that...and BTW, they're not extended.

Nope. Wilsons and Cobra mags come to mind.

I might be putting up my springfield 9mm 1911 with target sites up for sale in a week or two. So watch for that.

                Where are you located?

If you're in SoCal, L.A. area, check out Martin B Retting. I was there last weekend and saw both the Kimber and the SA 9mm.

+1 to everything that Brian noted.

I got to use both the Kimber and SA 9mm 1911's and I liked them both. Very solid offerings from both companies. I used both Metalform (9 rounders) and Tripp Research (10 rounders) through both guns and they ran great.

If I had to buy magazines, I would go with 10 round Tripps. They're really superb. A bunch of us shot the Single Stack Classic using Tripp mags, no issues whatsoever. In all fairness, I didnt' use the Metalforms as much as the Tripps, but both brands functioned fine.

Springfield Armory Loaded with Tripp Reseach 10 round magazines. You may have to settle for a Kimber. But that's okay, just a more complicated trigger system (series 80 type). All I know is my club has a number of 9mm Kimbers that choke occassionally and a few of us have Springfields that keep on chugging on.

I actually work 3 miles north of MTB. I guess I could check it out. So Tripp mags with the SA 9mm will look fine?

Metalform "Springfield" (a Rob Leatham design) for 9-round mags and Tripp Research for 10-rounders. Arguably, magazines are the biggest issue when using a 1911 in a sub-caliber with a much shorter OAL cartridge than the 45ACP. Every other brand will work, but none will compare to the two mentioned as far as reliability is concerned. Ask any serious competition shooter that uses a 9mm 1911 and they could go on for days about magazine problems. We won't even get into the doublestacks...

                        Regards,

                        Brian

P.S. I'd wait for Kelvricks's Springfield 9mm! Those, from the factory, just run and run and run and run. They usually include the Metalform "Springfield" mags... hmmmm...

Hmm, after doing some research on the interweb, I noticed a lot of complaints with the 9mm SA and the Kimber. I am guessing a lot of issues were mag related (FTF, not locking back on the last round, etc.). Has SA's quality control gotten better? Also, is the trigger pull on the SA 9mm much better than the one that comes on the .45 ACP GI/Milspec models? My friends trigger felt like a mushy sponge. I also plan to use a lot of Lead 122g and 147g flat points.

I have a SA Loaded, SS in 9mm. I bought it in December and have about 200rds through it. I am about to list it for sale. it is in new condition all original from SA.
I am in NorCal and want $900 firm for it. if this post is dead I will list it this week. I am selling because I am trying to fund a Wilson Combat. Let me know if you are interested.

Wilson Combat also makes 10 rd 9mm mags for 1911s. I haven't tried them personally but have read good reviews on them. I've used Metalform, Mecgar, and Tripp research mags. All 3 work fine with round nose bullets. The Tripp research mags have occasional feed failures with hollow points. This was on my SA 1911 Loaded Target. 1911s in 9mm are a blast to shoot!
