H&K USP vs. P2000

What are you using the gun for? I have a P2000 V3 in .40 for CCW, and it carries quite nicely with few snag points. But, I have other guns that I prefer to shoot for just a fun day at the range.

I would get (did) get the USP. I like locked and cocked. if you want the P2000 I would get the LEM. my top choice is the P30 that you cant get.

I think I asked this poll on HK talk and the results were P30 > USP > p2000.

The only advantage I find the USPf has over the P2000 is the ability for cocked and locked, and the longer sight radius. Otherwise, the P2000 beats the USP in every way. I own both, and prefer my P2000 much more.

I have USP Compact 40, P2000 40, and the P30 9MM...Although I have not shot the P30...I carry the P2000...I prefer the ergonomics of the P2000 and the changeable backstraps...

how can you prefer it over a gun you never shot...like saying I like how the mustang drives better than the camaro, but I have never driven the Camaro. just sayin.

Newb here... I just bought a usp40 full size and as a new shooter I can control the recoil very well nice guns though for sure

he is basing his "carry" preference on the ergonomics, and not which shoots better. your analogy doesn't fit.

fine. I like my mustang better becuase the seat is more comfortable. even tho the Camaro will blow its doors off.

from the HK pros: USP=p2000, the P30 rules when thrown intothe mix. then again ther're just polls.

I don't think the P30 rules as an IWB piece over the P2000, the rough texture along the sides of the grip + larger grip would hamper function in that regard.

(note the HK45 with the spiderman grip a la P30, but the HK45c with the P2000 style grip texturing)

Which should I get? I have never owned a semi automatic before. I want a S&W .40 cal, I heard the recoil on the .40 is uncomfortable. I heard the USP is more comfortable(greater wieght and possibly better recoil absorbing features), but the P2000 has more reliable mags and accepts more accessories. Which would have less maintenance? Thoughts?

EDIT: I also heard about the P30L. Any thoughts on that either?

Basically the trump card to the whole argument is this: try before you buy. Both the USP Compact and the P2000 are excellent handguns, but the question is which feels more comfortable to you when you shoot it? If a gun feels uncomfortable to shoot, then unless you have an overwhelming need for that particular firearm (you need a lightweight backup weapon of the same caliber as your primary), then don't buy it because you're not going to enjoy it.

agreed - the USP grip is bigger than most due to the thicker plastic magazines. the P2000 is actually compact size. most HK fans say, just buy BOTH!

+1 on the P2000. The grip ergonomics on the P2000 is much better than the USP in my hands.

My vote: HK P2000 V3

Mine as well. I bought one in 9mm.

It was a tough call. Both felt great in my hand. The P2000 is ambidextrous and has a standard rail. The USP has some tacticool going for it and a lot more options. (Folks don't seem to be making a lot of accessories in the P2000 version yet.)

For example: I always thought the DG switch for the Surefire lights was cool. But Surefire has no version for the P2000 nor do they plan to make one. They said the USPc version might fit or might not.

I love my USPc .40, it just fits my hand and points very naturally. I usually carry it de-cocked but I like the ability to safety it. I've also shot a LEM version and though it was great. I may have that mod done some day but I'm going to get a P7 for CCW so the USPc is my HD gun.
