    Glock generation question

Is any generation Glock 19 more or less reliable than any other generation?

Not that I heard. And I have been a GlockTalk regular for awhile.

I'm waiting on the Gen IV G19 - seems like there are enough substantial changes that it's worth the wait.

I have some issues with Gen1 and Gen2, but they are fine if properly serviced and (cough, cough ... never use the word "recall") upgraded. I think Gen3 is as solid as can be. Gen4 is a mystery yet to be revealed.

I don't pretend to be an "authority." I'm just a guy who trains a lot, shoots a lot and has a perspective.

I can't say I've ever heard of one generation being less reliable than another, but I would imagine the longer a company is around, the more R and D goes into a product and the better it gets.

Can you expand either here or in a PM if you don't want to start a war.

I am leaning towards a Gen 2 as I prefer the grip on that model.

I experienced the slide rail issue on my G17 after about 10k rounds or so. I sent it in for service, and it was solid ever since. My intention is not to start a flame war, but rather to note that ALL mechanical devices can have issues ... Glocks are no different. It really did take Glock a few iterations to get a number of issues with their pistols fixed, and they weren't exactly forthcoming with their customer base about various known/verified issues.

Gen3 Glocks are probably very close to the claims of "perfection" made by Glock, IMHO ... they just never should have used that superlative with earlier iterations/designs ... as they were about as far from the truth as you can get.

I made the "cough, cough" comment only because people will occasionally get snarky about some manufacturer's recall as being indicative of low quality. Glock has never actually had a "recall", but they sure as hell should have had more than one.

You can just stipple your current Gen 3 model by removing the finger grooves.

If the Gen 1 or Gen 2 has been sent in for upgrades, you should be good. But the Gen 3's are about as reliable as it gets. You can always remove the finger grooves if you dont like them (dremel, file, etc etc).

I went with a Gen 2 because like you, I like the grip better, and I got a great deal on it. But I wouldnt mind a Gen 3 either. A Gen 4 would be nice as well
