Help which 1911 should I buy?

Hi guys, I wana purchase a 1911 style pistol in the 1200 range preferably under that. I don't really care too much if it's a 9mm or 45. I like the springfield fullsize operator because it has a rail which is something that I like and prefer to have, but it wouldn't make or break the deal for me. I also like the Kimber Custom Covert II but its a little out of my price range. I prefer something all black with night sights, and I am not looking for something compact. The glock17 fits my hands perfectly and I like the size of it. I am still debating size wise what I want, should I get fullsize or standard? I want something that will be very accurate, if you were me what would you get? I could really use some advice.

I kind of like this sig 1911 but don't know of anyone that owns a sig 1911. Which is a better brand of 1911 out of these 2, Springfield, or Sig? I would think a Kimber is better than those 2. Anyone know details on the sig 1911s?

The S&W 1911s are very reasonably priced for the quality of gun they are.

They can be found somtimes as low as $750ish, depending on features suites.

Accuracy reports are very good, and you don't hear of funky reliability issues like you do on some other brands of 1911s.

        I've been tempted myself by a Commander-sized 1911Sc...

I got a Kimber Tactical II. Has frontstrap and backstrap checkering, checkering under the triggergaurd, front and back slide serrations, night sights, tactical magwell. It has a lightweight aluminum frame, 7 ounces lighter than the regular steel. You can really feel the difference between a standard 1911 and the Tactical, not that much additional recoil either.

It's pretty similar to the Covert, except it has an anodized grey frame, a magwell, and none of those really fugly grips.

On another note, please don't get a 9mm 1911. That is a basterdization of the design.

If you're in the Sacto area, how about a nice Para?

So far I think am thinking of choosing maybe the kimber pro carry tle2 or the Springfield fullsize operator. But I am not sure, which is a better brand of 1911? So far I notice that the Springfield is 1 inch bigger and has a heavier trigger pull by 1-2lbs. Does a lighter trigger pull mean better accuracy? What are the pros and cons of that? I also notice that the kimber has a 1 spring recoil system and the Springfield has a 2 piece full length rod recoil system. Which system is better?

I have shot the Springfield and I own 3 Kimbers.... Obviously I prefer the Kimber. The lighter trigger doesn't mean better accuracy, but you will have less of a tendency to mash the trigger, but they are less forgiving, you have to be aware of where your finger is and how much pressure you are applying.

All of my Kimbers had full length guide rods; I have changes two of them to standard length guide rods and spring plugs. I find without attention, the guide rod & plug tend to become fouled and slow down the slide.

If you want the most accurate, generally that will be the full-size. What are you going to do with it? If not IDPA or carry, I'd say full size it the classic 1911. If you want opinions, check out 1911forum.com, there's no end of opinions.

My suggestion is buy what ever grabs you, just go with your gut. $1200 will buy a LOT of firearm, you really can't go wrong. Just check out gunsamerica.com and gunbroker.com for what's available. I like the Kimber pre-SeriesII, I would say look for one of those. The only Springfield I would consider is the Professional, other than that one, stick with something from the USA. You can get a used Les Baer for $1300 right now on gunsamerica I think it was. Beats the snot out of any Kimber, and I have 2 Kimbers and a Les Baer, so my opinion is based on first-hand experience.

But they're all good, get whatever appeals to you, regardless.

Les Baers are a little bit out of your range but that's what I'd go for. If you're thinking about 2k and above, probably Nighthawk Custom or Wilson Combat.

                        S&W 1911PD w/rail should be less than $1000

No no no.. you want to get a Kimber Eclipse Custom II in 10mm.

Now that's one good looking pistol. I just happen to be a fan of 10mm but it's just as good looking in .45ACP.

You can't go wrong with Kimber (except the models with external extractor), Springfield, S&W or Sig GSR Revolution. I have Kimber Csutom TLE II and Sig GSR Revolution.
