    1911 Dry Fire Tools

    Amazingly real, but not real.

Got my WE Caspian Colt Commander today and, of course, slapped on a set of real, vintage Colt grips.

I'll use this for IDPA dry fire practice, but I'm knocked out by how real it feels and handles compared to my match gun. Up until a few weeks ago I had no idea the big time champion pistol shooters practiced with airsoft pistols. Live and learn.

Major props to Manny Bragg for his help and advice regarding effective practicing techniques for match shooting.

    real

    not real

    Hope this helps someone.

      Beats me.

Up until a month ago I knew nothing about airsoft guns.

Then I found out the pro's have used them for years for dry fire practice.

I shoot a Colt Combat Commander in IDPA, so now I get to practice more and make little holes in things.

btw: bought it from a California company

i think its easier to rack the plastic slide than pull down the hammer on the real thing. and if you get the gas kind, you just pull the trigger.

There is also a guy who makes scaled airsoft steel targets. I just can't bring myself to put'em through the house though...

You dry fire the rimfire conversion?

Isn't that going to mess up the firing pin eventually?

WHAT??? NO!!! Im just saying I buy a 22 conversion to fire my 1911 instead of shooting 45acp all the time. lol, and I dont recommend a kimber 22 conversion. but the nice thing about them the 22 conversion , you get to use your 1911 lower and have the same trigger pull as when you shoot the 45, just alot less recoil and very cheap to shoot. But the kimber does not lock back when empty and it really sucks, They dont even say it on the box when you buy it, or in the manual, if they do then i must of gone over it by accident. I think the only 22 conversion that locks back out there is the tactical solution one that they came out with but its a bit pricy. Ive shot my 22 conversion so much that I know when its loaded and when its not, since it had SOOOO many FTL I have to keep an eye on it, and yes dry firring a 22 is bad! very bad! I gave it a bit of a torture test last month. I shot about 400 rounds doing a double tap for every 2 rounds, the barrel got super hot and the lead started melting to the barrel and I dint notice till I started seeing the rounds go into the target sideways!!!!!! I did a complete mag and a half then it blew up on me! a round went into the chamber about 70% in and when I pulled the trigger , the round blew a hole downwards and the max exploded. super scary.

Manny Bragg and Brian Enos use airsoft for practice.

makes it good enough for me

My little brother had a Beretta 92 airsoft gun that he took apart and couldnt' get back together. I looked at it when I got home and it had the same internal configuration as a real beretta so I was able to put it right back together. Kinda cool. It is about the same weight and everything.

I have wanted one for a while, but a hundred bucks for a good one equals a lot of snap caps.

Then i have to buy gas, and then pick up all those damn BB's.

                          I really want one though.

For a backstop and BB catch I'm using a large, thin cardboard box with a car floormat inside.

I'm attaching paper targets to the box. The BB's penetrate the box, hit the carpet and gather at the bottom to be easily poured out.

Shot 60 rounds at 10 yds while home for lunch today.

This is going to be a great practice tool for shooting my real Combat Commander in IDPA.
