Need source for a Ruger SP-101 replacement hammer

I'd like to bob the hammer on my SP-101, but rather than just bob the existing hammer I'd like to keep it around.

I'd rather replace the hammer with a new one and bob that, so I can always go back to the original.

Looking for a source for that original hammer.

AFAIK, Ruger does not sell the bobbed hammer separately. They will only sell and install it for you. You would be better bobbing the current one and picking up a standard hammer to replace it if the desire ever arises. Something like this...?

ETA: Oops, misread your post. Tired, worked last night AFAIK, Ruger sells the standard hammer. I would try them first.

I already called Ruger. They wouldn't sell me a hammer at all.

They will let me send in the SP101 and they will replace the hammer for me with a bobbed one, but it's going to cost over a $100 for what should be a very simple replacement job, including THIRTY freaking dollars for shipping.

I'd rather just get the hammer and have a local smith do it where I'm not going to be charged that much for shipping.

On a side note, my SP-101 looks exactly like yours, except for the spur hammer

Maybe they will sell it to a 'smith directly. You could try that route. Sign up for the http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/. Someone there may be able to help you out.

You can find them at Numrich every now and then...check the link often, when they come in stock, they sell quickly.
