Yes, the sword is an authentic Japanese sword. The blade pre-dates (early 1800's) the sword mountings. The sword was carried by an officer in WWII, and my grandfather, who was in the army brought it back as a war trophy. The sword is a (shin-gunto) Japanese military sword.
