A Boy Scout hiking in Glacier Park recently was chased by a grizzly bear. He reached safety in a ranger station only to be arrested by park rangers. It seems it is illegal to run through the park with a bear behind.

this isn't alaska.
i am 5'5", and have hiked alone and with friends, dogs....usually packing just basic necessities, water, lighter, knife, compass. not once have i feared for my life from bears or cats. i tread lightly in summer months for rattlers and it's the bi-peds that pose the most threat, in the woods or in the concrete jungle.
i think more people are rescued from sprained ankles and being unprepared for the elements than animal attacks.

i hike in vasquez rocks (sp?) and havent felt the need to carry anything more than a knife but thats because there is literally around 100 ppl there everyday hiking and whatnot. now anywhere else where its just me and company, ill have the gp on my side and a knife, id rather know i can do damage to a bear or anything more than worry about ppl being afraid of seeing a gun at my side. u gotta wear a gun for protection from bears like condoms for sex, i can go on all night lol so bring ur gun, knife, or a Calgun buddy!...and twinkies, u have to have twinkies!!! or God help ur soul

I've spoken with 3 different DGF officers over the years that confirmed there's a conspiracy to not report attacks. It's not from the agents themselves, it comes from higher up. All three were grizzled old veterans. Forgive me if I take their word over yours.

Sounds as if DFG is involved in the same sort of underreporting (of animal attacks) as the DOJ when it comes to failing to include cases where "brandishing" a gun prevents a violent criminal injury/attack...
