    Weird S&W revolver.....

I recently got a S&W Model 65 four inch . Its P&R ( a 70's gun) and its a ROUND BUTT FRAME? Just noticed it! Came in the box with everything. I know they made a three inch round butt. But not a four inch.... After a bit og research , I learned that it was shipped to Jovino's in NY.

Has anyone ever seen a four inch model 65 with round butt frame?

I've heard of any number of square butt types being done with round butt frames for some reason or another.

If it went to Jovino's it's possible that it was a LEO's personally owned gun, and if it shipped round butt, the box label might confirm, it may well have been specially ordered that way. With a bit of provenance this could be a nice addition to an S&W collection.

      ETA.... pics,must have pics.

Yes, I bought one from a Calgunner and then resold it later to another Calgunner.

With S&W anything is possible. I read over on the S&W forum recently about a 4" round butt Model 15 (IIRC) -- which is the blue analog of the Model. 65 67.

ETA: the 65 is the stainless version of the Model 13.

What's the product code # on the box? Also it should state the 4" barrel length on the label as well. What "dash" is it? Being P&R it should be a -1, -2 or -3. In 1982 the factory eliminated cylinder counterbore & pinned barrel.

Plus there should be a "K" in the SN. And last but not least, are the grips factory & are they SB not RB?

The only factory 4" 65 RB's listed in the "book" were made / shipped in 1996 to 2001 with a product code of 102604.

In years gone by, I know Jovino's was very much in favor with S&W so having a special run of 65's isn't out of the question. Give them a call (212-925-4881) and ask them about your 65. They' always been very helpful every time I've spoken with them.

Good luck & let us know the results!
