My understanding of the term "Kit gun" refers to small revolvers that are primarily carried by campers or fishermen in their "Kit" or gear......Take down guns are usually rifles and shotguns and I have heard them referred to as "Guide guns or bush guns"....these were meant to be taken apart for carry aboard small planes flown by Alaskan bush pilots......."The 340PD is nothing but 12 ounces of pure titanium & scandium evil

That's it. There used to be lots of kit guns made, back in the day - small, so they'd fit in a tackle box or pocket; small caliber, for snakes, varmints, and small game; inexpensive, so you didn't mind so much if you dropped them overboard or knocked them around.
I don't know of anyone but S&W and Taurus who make them any more, and with the S&W costing over $600 new, it really doesn't fit the concept any more!sigpic
