    Kimber Custom II...

as a first 1911? i am looking to spend some of my tax money on a new pistol. i was initially thinking of getting a competition 22lr, but i thought i should go in the 1911 direction.

so, do you think this would be a good 1911 for a first timer? i primarily shoot 9mm and .40. i've shot a customized 1911 before and my accuracy was decent. i figure more time on this platform, and i should do alot better.

my other choice on spending my money is a 4" GP-100 since i don't own a wheelgun. at this moment though, i'm pretty set on a 1911.

    ***here she is...

Heck yes! Fantastic choice for a 1911, can get the Kimbr .22lr conversion kit for it as well and have both a great 1911 and .22lr in one (for inexpensive practice).

If you have cash go for the Kimber & do the GP100 later. Both are fantastic!!!

The Kimber CII was my first 1911 and it is an excellent choice.

if you want 22 there's the ruger 22/45 which has the same controls as a 1911 and even comes in a model with exchangable 1911 grips. its the most reliable 22lr auto I've shot

for kimber, i just got one. spend the extra $100-200 or so and get the TLE. its the same gun but with night sighs and front strap checking (cost way more than $200 for those two added)

remember 1911 is EXPENSIVE starting from ammo all the way to accessories (firgure in $60-100 for a pair of decent grips)

check out my review on my kimber tle

I've had a Kimber Custom Classic for many years, it's >

the model prior to the Kimber Custom II, and have enjoyed it much more so than any other 1911 I've ever owned. And I have owned Springfields, Wilsons, Baers, Browns, etc.... The Kimber has never had to go back to the factory for repairs and all of the others have, numerous times. Plus the Kimbers Custom Classic still shots groups tighter than most other 1911's. I can't see spending any more money on any other 1911. It's what I reccommend to all of my students to buy not only as their first 1911, but as their only 1911....

thanks everyone. i'm going to order it on bud's as they have it for $700 shipped, which is the best price i've seen by far.

i don't see the TLE for that price, and if anything, i could possibly trade it in later or try some after market NS as well.

Cant go wrong with a Kimber. Ive shot nearly every model they offer and while the trigger get better with the higher end models, the general quality of their pistols yields a very high quality/price ratio.

My very first 1911 was a Custom II. Wonderful gun, and I liked it so much I eventually bought two more 1911s.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Very happy with my Kimber, it's EBP (Evil Black Pistol) at least mine is, all black out except for the barrel and guide rod... maybe I should get those blacked out too when I have a little extra money
