    Rifle Pistols

How would you guys rate the following rifle pistols:

    1. AK47 pistol from Draco (7.62 x39)
    2. AR-15 Pistol (5.56 x 45)
    3. Kel Tec PLR16 (5.56 x 45)

Ignore the caliber for a second. How would you rate the compact size and accuracy of the above pistols. Assuming all of the above meet CA gun laws.

I would take the PLR16 based on looks alone. None of the three would be anything other than fun plinkers for me.

The advantage of the AR pistol over the others is that the buffer tube offers you an additional point of contact. Get a normal size buffer tube, not a dinky one, and press it up against your cheek when you fire. It will steady your aim making it more accurate and thus more practical.

I love my AR pistol. If not inside CA I would have built it as a Short Barreled Rifle instead of a pistol, but are laws are our laws so I did it the legal way. It has an 11.5" Barrel and is as close to the USAF GAU-5/A as you can legal build here in California. To be legal, if I want to build it as an SBR (out of state of course) I would have to swap out the lower and file for a tax stamp before reattaching the upper and slipping on an end stock. Physically however, the only difference is it doesn't have the plastic end stock.

The advantage of it being 5.56mm is I can buy my ammo in bulk and split it among my other 5.56mm rifles. I never get bored that way, and others can go shooting with me without worrying about how much ammo will cost them/us.

I do own a 9mm handgun, .357 handgun, 22lr rifle, .308 rifle, 12GA Shotgun, and AK as well. The only ones I stock up lots of ammo for are the 9mm and the 5.56mm guns (I get civilian 223 ammo). The rest I just pick up as needed. The reason being my particular suppliers always have 9mm and 223 in stock and at reasonable prices. Plus they are great for SHTF so I like having boat loads of it around as part of my emergency preparedness plan.

An AR pistol with 7" barrel and flashdevice is about 23" long from tip of flash device to end of buffer tube. If you go with some of the piston models and can lose the buffer tube if you want something even shorter.

I kinda like the buffer tube cuz you can tuck it to your cheek for stability on longer shots.

accuracy wise.....well....it's an AR, out to 50yrds....dead on. Haven't had a chance to take one out further yet.....but I dont see why out to even 100yds wouldn't be just as good as anything.

If you had say a 10" barrel model.....what the only difference between that and a 10" military issued SBR? The pistol is only missing a butt stock, the rest is all the same.

I have not shot the PLR-16, but I have shot an SU-16, and if you're looking for reliable performance I personally would tend to shy away from the Kel-tec unless you just want something for funnin' around with and reliability isn't a huge concern for you.

From research I have done they are reliable, accurate, shoot Beach ball sized flames for super fun factor, takes ar mags with out the GhEy AR buffer

                      Rifle Pistols

I am not a fan of that class at all. With a "Rifle Pistol" you lose much of the advantage of a rifle caliber. That is velocity. All that "Fun" fireball is lost power. However, that being said, I like the looks of the AR-15 based design.
                      I wouldn't own one, though.

Agreed but when you own all the functional guns already its fun to have some AWEsome evil fun toys to play with like Rifle pistols

Yeah.....they try and say that about SU-16s too.....but having shot and SU-16 side by side with an AR.....reality didn't support those claims in my opinion.

Kel-tec is a fun, inexpensive plinking gun......wouldn't trst my life to one though.

I had a Rocky Mountain Patriot (AR-15 Pistol) and it was terrible. Jams all day long. I had a very bad experience with Rocky Mountain. Reliability no doubt AK47.
