    Sig 1911 or SW1911

Which would you soon and why? Don't know too much about the Sig 1911, but per Guns and Ammo review, they are pretty good.

i did some research here on calguns and many people seem to prefer the sw 1911s. I don't own any but i was interested in purchasing one and from all the replies i read here on the forum, i'm convinced i'll buy a sw when I'm ready.

the Sig 1911 have had some reliability problems in the pass which they may have addressed...i don't think i'm ready to buy one yet.

the S&W 1911 is a good to excellent gun depending on which model you choose...the Performance Center 1911s are a whole different animal than their regular production guns...i have the 1911SC (Commander length slide over a Scadium frame)

Purists of 1911's would be aghast at either, they've got external extractors. The Smith line also has different cut angles for their rear sights, so you have less options in changing them out if you don't like what came with the gun. The Smith runs with their version of the Swartz firing pin safety.

I have a Smith, like it, don't have the SIG.

I believe the Sigs are dimensioned differently enough from a standard 1911 that holsters need to specifically state that they fit them.

Smith has a good reputation from their repair depot others will have to comment on the Sig line. If Sig's 1911 line matches their P2xx lines, it should be a good pistol.

Did I mention I like my Smith (yeah, I know I did, just checking to see if you were reading the whole post).

My two cents if I may...

It's a tough one as both have their respective following. I personally prefer the Sig over the S&W. For starters, the action of the Sig in my opinion is a lot smoother than the S&W. The parts used by Sig in their 1911 are superior and on par with Ed Brown or Caspian with very little MIM parts. The quality of Sig's barrels are outstanding and fitted very well for accuracy (as accurate as you can get from a mass-produced 1911 versus a custom build). True, Sig did have some issues with their initial design i.e. hammer hooks being a little long and the integral safety key on the slide but they took care of that rather quickly. The Sig comes from the factory with 30LPI front strap checkering, S&W has serrations if I'm not mistaken. All that aside, both use external extractors and are series 80's which I'm not crazy about but can live with. The Sig does, unfortunately, have a different shape to the slide that makes it a little difficult to find THE holster for. This is my opinion on the two models you asked about. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

As for what I like? I agree with the post below and would be happy with the SA "Loaded" model as well.

My buddy had a sig gsr had a low round count and wasnt the most reliable 1911 out there. The extractor broke early on (low round count) which can happen on any gun so that isnt really a reason not to buy one. Even though it is an external extactor. I would buy the Smith if i had to out of those two. Sig Sauer hasnt been in the 1911 game as long as colt, springfield etc I love there Sig P series handguns just not their 1911's. However, for whatever you spend on a SW you could purchase a Springfield and at the minimum I would buy a Springfield Loaded!

They indeed are. Good triggers, great rep for reliability.

I've seen a S&W 1911S (with the Scandium Commander frame) do some very very tight groups.

                      If I get a Commander-sized 1911, it'll be a S&W.

I've shot the Sigs and they aren't bad pistols at all but I'll take a Smith over any production line 1911 from Sig, Springfield Armory, and especially over Kimber.

I currently own two 1911 pistols, a TRP Operator and a Sig GSR "TTT". I've had Zero performance issues w/ either pistol.
