    Bay Area Gun Stores

Where are all the good Gun stores...every store someone has a bad attitude,a lawyer, or just plain rude. Why are there no Outdoors stores that have sales ads.....How are we gonna know what's on sale, when half of the employees at the store don't want to answer questions when you get them on the phone? Also why are they so high??? Every gun i do get an answer about they charge $150 to 200 more.....Not talking about online stores I been running across some good ads in other States wondering why no stores in bay area at least do this. I Don't want to drive 3 hours for an overpriced gun that might not be in stock. LET US SEE SOME DEALS!!!!!!! Example http://vanceoutdoors.com/flyer/flyer.pdf

I don't care what a gun owner looks like or wears, as long as he or she is responsible and abiding by the law, I have no problem.

Glad you got that venting out. Feels good, right?

Now as for local gun shops, there are a few good ones. Of course your experience will depend on a few factors:
    1. Do you look like a banger?
    2. Do you act like a noob?
    3. Do you say things like, "Hey I can get this at Big 5 cheaper" or "Shotgun News shows these are $200 less than your price"?
    4. Do you ask to handle every gun that catches your eye then walk out saying you'll just order it online for cheaper?
    5. Did you walk in right after someone fitting the above criteria just left after wasting the salesperson's time?

Because we don't have outdoors stores in the Bay Area. The only one that I can think of is Sportsmen Warehouse in Rocklin. In the Bay Area we are lucky to even have a decent gun store. Being in Oakland too, it is a pain to have to travel to at least Fremont every time I want to check out a gun. What are you looking for anyways. Target Masters seems to have the cheapest prices around but their paper work is a pain.

Question 1: The difference is some shop workers care and will act differently depending on if a person likes to look like a gangster.

            It would have been helpful to add some suggestions so here you are;
            City Arms in Pacifica
Imbert and Smithers in San Carlos
            Tabor's Shooting Sports in Millbrae

            Any others?

Now that is what I call a great ad. I could see myself dropping about five grand on my first trip. First item I would grab would be that H&K USP 40 cal with the stainless slide for 699.

Or you can pick up the phone, give them a call and ask if they have what you are looking for and at what price.... just sayin'.

That said, drive over the Richmond San Rafael racetrack... er, um... bridge and visit Bullseye in San Rafael. Or Bullseye in Castro Valley. Massive inventory and every time I've dealt with them (I have a purchase in 10 day limbo with the San Rafael store now) they've been square.

There is also Old West Gun Room in El Cerrito but I haven't been in there for a while so no recent experience. I've made several hassle free purchases there going back over many years.

There is a stickyed thread of Bay Area Gun Dealers located here. Start calling around for what it is you are looking for.

And you are answering your own question.... it's the Bay Area. Everything costs more here. Commercial real estate in particular.

Drive over to Bullseye in San Rafael and say, "I heard about this place on Calguns."

Even without saying that they're a good group, very helpful and very friendly.

Unfortunately, we're programmed by nature to judge people on first appearances. As much as I'd love to have a long chat over a Chai about politics, philosophy, religion and family with everyone I run into - I can't. So I need to make some snap judgements based on past experience.

Folks behind gun counters do that too.

I can usually tell when someone is shopping to buy - or just shopping. I've been wrong - but I've been right much more often.

As far as n00bs, a decent command of the cultural patois will help you out, here. That's where Calguns can help you out. Most Calgunners I've met know their stuff better than the dweebs behind the counter.

Rudeness from the guys behind the counter is a strange cultural phenomenon. There was a 30 page post about it here on Calguns a while back.

Regarding prices - you've surely noticed that everything is more expensive in California. Business taxes on gun stores are usually higher than on other retailers, too. Stores pass those costs onto their customers.

Finally, Reeds in San Jose usually has some sort of flyer/ad in the paper.
