    50 Round Limit Jan 1st?

I am hearing that CA has passed, and will come into effect Jan 1st, a law that will limit you to 50 Rounds a month....

    Is this true?

no it isn't. I suggest you read the actual law passed, AB962, and see for yourself.

just fingerprints and I.D. will be recorded for every purchase of more than 50 rounds of pistol ammo.

^ which I believe will effectively eliminate online purchasing as well.

Shotguns will become much more popular for home defense. That or people will load their own.

"50 rounds" is not mentioned at all in the chaptered bill.

                (3) Commencing February 1, 2011, a vendor shall not sell or
otherwise transfer ownership of any handgun ammunition without, at
the time of delivery, legibly recording the following information:

Isn't there an exemption for C&R with COE to the internet ammo ban?

Of course as with out of state FFLs who will not ship to CA even when legal because they are either fed up with CA; or afraid of running afoul of the minefield of CA laws -- it may be difficult to find online ammo sellers who will recognize the exemption.

Not necessarily. Ammunition vendors can still buy online, and the law's definition of "ammunition vendor," is rather nebulous.

SEC. 2. Article 3.5, 12060 (c)"Handgun ammunition vendor" or "vendor" means any person, firm, corporation, dealer, or any other business enterprise that is engaged in the retail sale of any handgun ammunition, or that holds itself out as engaged in the business of selling any handgun
                    ammunition.
I'm not a lawyer and so I'm not prepared to expound on the precise definition of "holds itself out as engaged in the business of selling handgun ammunition," but I don't see any requirement that a "vendor" needs to hold an FFL, obtain a business license, own a brick-and-mortar business, or even actually sell ammunition. What, oh wise lawmakers, does the phrase "holds itself out" mean? It's going to be interesting to see how this is implemented, especially with our fine CGF brethren already busy picking it apart . My guess is that out of legitimate liability concerns, most out-of-state ammo businesses are either going to stop shipping handgun ammo to CA entirely, or come up with their own ad-hoc guidelines as to whom they consider a "vendor," which will probably exclude most of us.

Yes, there is a C&R+COE exemption to the mail-order/internet handgun ammo ban. And Yes, there may be issues trying to find sellers willing to accept the C&R+COE exemption.
