ok so i went shooting with my brother-in-law the other day, and finally had a chance to see one. i dont have the cash to buy one so i have to save. i was planning on buying a 92fs since i have some 15 rnders from my younger days and want them to be used. and than i planned on the px4. but i got to check out the emp at the shop not shoot it but hold it and stuff. now i cant stop thinking about it. but is it really worth it or should i just stick with my original plan. any feedback would be great. especially from those who have shot at least one of the berettas and the emp

springfield emp worth it?
Tags: None -
100% worth it. but like the other posters pointed out- its not cheap and it shoudnt even be in the same conversation as $500-$600 guns. ive shot 22 pistols that have more kick then my emp. just beware- if its your first 1911 style pistol your heading for a slippery/expensive slope.Iam a good shot. At least i think i would be. Iam a good free throw shooter.Comment

The PX4s are great guns. But they won't accept your old 92fs magazines if that's what you're hoping for.Beretta PX4 Storm .40 S&W (Round Count 3,050) | Yugo M72 | Romy M44

I figured it would be like apples and oranges. Yeah I know about the mag difference in beretta. It was just after I saw the emp, I was thinking of throwing my original plan out the door. I could get both for the same price or the one. That's why I was asking if it's trully worth it. Or if I should buy the others and then get that.Comment

"If you want it, it will come ......."
I have one in 9mm, friend has one in 40 S & W and they are top quality, well made guns - if this isn't going to be your only handgun ever and you like it and want it I'd say buy it.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

they are well worth the price they ask for them. their quality is between the Springfield TRP and the Professional.
here's a look at mine i posted a while back
mine has been every reliable, but i've only put a few hundred rounds through it so far
they come with Coco Bolo wooden panels and Esmeralda makes grips for it. there are also G10 and aluminum grips available.
Kimber doesn't make anything comparable to the EMP. the EMP action has been resized for the 9mm cartridge, it isn't a 1911 .45 ACP action chambered for the 9mm round...there are 15 new, non-interchangeable parts. the EMP is about the same size as the Kahr CW9

The 40 is steel framed, not bad at all. I would say it's crisp in the same way a steel J frame Smith is but with a better grip design. The 40 is not CA OK'd though. The 9 is very easy on the hand even though the frame is alloy.
My very minor gripe on the EMP is that I have fairly large hands - not beefy, but long - and the narrower grip and my tendency to hold a gun high puts my right thumb up against the thumb safety when it's down. I replaced the issue ambi one with a single sided Nighthawk - paddle's a bit higher and the finish matches the EMP factory.Last edited by dfletcher; 03-26-2010, 5:44 PM.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

i reached my conclusion by comparing it to the TRP (regular production) and the Professional (built in the Custom Shop)could you please explain what you mean by quality and how you came to this conclusion?
the EMP was developed in the Custom Shop and all early models than encountered problems were routed there for for corrections. the EMP has the slide/frame/barrel fit tolerances i associate with the Professional. an obvious point is the beveling and the front sight fit
like the TRP, Springfield built the EMP to a price point. you can see this in the fit of the beavertail, ejector, exractor, trigger and the thumb safety. it also lacks a beveled mag well and frontstrap checkering...because the journey is the worthier part...The Shepherd's TaleComment
