    Fake compensator on p-22 target

Are there any gunsmiths that specialize in p-22 mods and accessories (like there are for 10-22, and MkII,III's)?? I'd like to make the comp ports on my new p-22 target functional. (I don't care if it's impractical, expensive or a waste of time, I may even try it myself on a brand spankin' new pistol!)

What you are suggesting is very impractical, but not for the reasons you mentioned above. I believe that the 5" P22 (with the fake comp) has a threaded barrel. I don't own a P22 (yet) but I think you can remove the thread protector that is glued on (or something like that) and put a real compensator on there. As soon as the compensator is on there, with silver solder or something of that sort it should be CA legal. This way you will not loose any barrel length and you will have added some weight and a compensator to your pistol. Triple check with legalities though.

Nothing since I asked seven years ago. It might be time to bug Magnaport.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Yes and no on the Magnaport - the P22 barrel is under a sleeve, so that means both will have to be cut, I don't know how much room there is between the barrel and the sleeve but I don't think the gasses will expand the way you would want them to outside of the ejection ports on the fake compensator. Hence why the compensator is fake (I am guessing that's the reason.)

This little .22 plinker was not designed for this. Use the threaded barrel to add a comp and permanently seal it on to comply with CA law. It will not look as pretty.

There is a link showing the barrel and the sleeve, keep in mind - this is a non-CA version, I don't know about the CA version.
