Feedback on these Sig P226s (photo)

    Here is the story....

First- Started with a SIG P226 in the early 90s. Then became a hard core Glock owner for a long time, all 9mm.

Next- I always wanted a Sig P226 9mm again since they fit my hand better. So I bought a older West German police trade in for cheap, on left. Fired it, loved it, had to get a little newer model as I was a born again Sig man.

Then- Found a newer model also for a good deal. It functions nice, shoot straight and less wear. Plan on it being my front line SD/HD and competition pistol.

So now here I am with two P226s. I want to get opinions and feed back on the quality. I think the newer one (right) was made in West Germany as well.

    For feedback please...Thanks.

what would you like feed back on?
what are their date codes? (the 2 letter code on the bottom of the slide where the proofmarks are)

if you'd like their triggers to feel more alike, you could change the older one's main spring assembly for a new one, but then you'd either have to get new grips or relieve the older grips

from the picture, hard to tell from the angle, it looks like your newer one has a stainless slide...that means it was manufactured domestically

Interesting P226 on the right. Looks like a stainless steel slide with the railess German frame. New style take down lever. That pistol is full of win. Not "Made in W. Germany" though, but still awesome.

I can only imagine how smooth that left one is, that one has seen quite a lot of mileage from what I see.

        Very nice.

The LEFT P226 shoots like a dream.

The RIGHT one was "Made in Germany" and is "Stainless Steel".

Also, the RIGHT one is boxes up to go back to Sig HQ for a total service job, slide refinish and new sights.

I guess I am asking if I am making a mistake selling the older Sig P226? Also- I did want the a newer model with the rails, but the grip is too fat for my hand.

as Richard pointed out, the newer one on the right is very cool with the new take down lever and railess frame. i'm not sure what you mean by the railed model having a fatter grip...they use the same grip panels

i wouldn't sell the older one, it's got to have an action that is smooth as silk. are the frame rails still in good shape?
if you really would like to sell it, can i get a look at it...i'm off of Bradshaw just north of Elk Grove

Hmm.. I wasn't aware of any P226 models with a milled stainless slide made in W. Germany.

The newer in store P226s with rails have a fatter grip. I didnt believe it until I tried them, but they do/did for me. The Owner at Wild Bills in EG confirmed it for me. Might be the same panels, but I got less wrap around.

I dont want to sell the older one, but need to. Yes, the frames rails are in good shape. The whole pistol is in good shape ecept for the holster wear. I can come meet you if you want to look at it. Please PM me.

                    Thnaks.

Same here, i must be wrong. I would go check, but the newer P226 is boxed up for shipping tomorrow. I only saw "Made in Germany" on the frame.

sounds like the frame was produced in germany and the slide domestically

I re-opened my box and YES the frame was Germany only. I am sure the Stainless Steel slide will serve me well, especially after it comes back from the factory all tuned up and new night sites.

I will be happy with it. But still hard to let the older P226 go.

Nothing wrong with having a backup. I would get the older P226 refinished, and then pick which between the two become your "daily shooter".

I hear ya. But I have too many back ups right now. 2 Sigs and 2 Glocks, all in 9mm. I even loaned the G17 out to a Relative to evaluate.

The older P226 will be for sale very soon. Sounds like a local is interested.
