Maakarov 19 pound spring???

I just recently bought the wife a Makarov(E.German), replaced the grips w/ Pearce grips and have purchased 19 and 21 pound springs. Should I fire the pistol first to judge the recoil(snap) Or should I just install the 19 pound spring from the get go? thanks, I'm using Silver bear FMJ

Try the 21 first. If the gun functions fine (too heavy a spring will cause feeding and ejecting failures), the bigger the better. Plus, it takes about 15 seconds to change springs anyway.
