    Tokarev TT-33 slide release

When my recently acquired Tok locks the slide back on an empty magazine, and I drop the empty and smack in a full one, the slide releases and goes into battery. Is this normal for this design? It of course has no slide lock lever, but I expected to have to manually rack the slide and release to strip a round and go to battery.

My Romanian Tok did the same thing, I found that the added safety would bind with the slide retainer clip and not allow the slide retainer to fully sit in the groove on the slide. Then when I "smacked" in a fresh mag, the slide retainer would just fall out of the groove. Once I removed the safety the gun performed flawlessly. Hope this helps!

Some of the TT-33's don't have a very deep groove in the slide for the slide release to catch. Others don't have a well angled edge on the release itself. Remember that these guns were made in bulk for troops with little resources and large demand. Quality control wasn't super high. On mine, I actually recently made the angle more sharp on the slide release itself and deepended the recess in the slide. Made a huge difference in handling for me.

To me the keyword here is "smack". I can smack a mag into my g3 G17 and do the same. I choose not to generally.

Slide fall forward after you smack a new mag in happens all the time. Many Glock, Sig, HK owners (must be more but I only hand around those forum) all experience that.

I have both USP full size and 226. It never happen to me on any gun, but I never tap my mag in harder than it needed to. This topic show up on multiple forum quite often. And don't limit to any specific brand of firearm.
