Range Report and Update: 9mm Combat Commander

Put 300 rounds through it yesterday. Ran flawlessly and shot more accurately than I ever imagined.

I'll have to wait until I shoot an outdoor, day-time match to make judgments about the Novak sights. The green fiber optic dot seems huge when shooting the indoor range.

I practiced drawing and firing in prep for local IDPA matches.

Sometimes I would choke up when drawing and almost get bit by the hammer. Couple of times I got "pinched", and it became a distraction.

SO...on my way home from the range I dropped it off with the gunsmith and told him to go ahead and fit the Ed Brown stainless beavertail I'd purchased but didn't have him install when he put it together the first time.

This is my grail Colt for shooting matches, and I'm going to keep it and shoot it.

That is a nice gun. Mine is a colt combat commander 45, 70 series.

I'd love to have a Commander in 9mm. You really did a nice job on that gun, I followed your other thread.

IMO, the Commander IS the best of the 1911's.

                    It's the "Black T" finish.

It shoots far better than I do, so it's hard to say how accurate it is.

I can say this, it's the most accurate pistol I've ever owned.

We're just getting to know each other, so here's the first 4 mag's thru the gun since the rebuild:

another 250 rounds through it Saturday

The gun performed flawlessly. Shot accurately, cycled dependably until I tried to run a last 50 rounds of Blazer brass through it.

By that time the new gun had about 500 rounds through it without cleaning.

After 500 rounds of Winchester White Box, the first mag of Blazer didn't feel right.

The action wasn't cycling as smoothly and with the same "authority". I think the Blazer ammo was just too underpowered for the dirty action. Eventually it wouldn't extract and cycle.

I lubed the slide and extractor, and that fixed any problems with the ammo.

Ran through the last 30 rounds with no problems except my being tired and shooting inaccurately.

My 45 combat commander doesn't like blazer either. I'm not sure what the deal is, I switched over to some wolf I had and never had a problem. How much do you have into the gun after everything?
