fun time with SA MC Operator

Well, today I got the urge to disassemble my Operator for the first time, it was dry and I want to lube it up reeeeal good and replace the ILS. I followed the disassembly guild on 1911.org and had a hell of time doing it. (in a good way) I think anyone who own a 1911 should do it if they haven't already done so.

on the side note, the main spring housing on the SA is different from the gun 1911.org uses in the guide, it does not have the pin to hold the main spring in place, SA use a cup like device on top of the main spring instead (only on models with ILS I presume). What I'm getting at is... you'll need to keep tention on the MSH while taking out the MSH pin so it won't fly out like it did on me

Don't feel bad. Mine did the same thing when I took the mainspring housing off to add a Smith & Alexander magwell. The Operator looks much better with the long housing

Well, this is a little late but, READ YOUR MANUAL!
You should have had a bent pin in your kit. (L-shaped) Cock the hammer, insert pin in MSH to hold mainspring. Remove MSH. Install proper after market MSH (without stupid ILS) and you're done. I just sold a brand new loaded and the new owner is having trouble with the ILS. Gonna help him tomorrow.

The other, even easier way of dealing with the ILS for disassembly is to put the hammer down and lock the ILS, knock out the pin that holds it in place and it comes out in one piece.

Yes, I totally agree on reading the manual first... after my MSH fly out of course

one little thing that's bothering me tho, the right side thumb safty now have a little gap from the frame, I can push it back but it will loosen after flipping the safty on and off a few times...

Edit: found out the above problem was caused by me installing the sear pin and hammer pin from the wrong size

Okay. I'll be honest. Sept. 08. Bought new Mil-spec. Properly disassembled ILS and put in new MSH. Fast forward a year, decide to put magwell on V-16 long slide. disassemble MSH, FORGETTING it has ILS, and, well, you know the rest.
