    PPT and DOJ cert guns

    Hi all -

I've been frequenting the Marketplace forum and noticed a lot of guns for sale that are not on the CA DOJ cert list (obviously C&R are an exception).

Is it true that PPT will allow you to get guns that aren't on the list? Also, once you have the gun and are found shooting at the local range by LEO can they confiscate?

Sorry for the noob question but CA laws have my head spinning.

PPT's are exempt from cali's safe handgun roster. It is 100% legal to buy a gun through PPT that is not on the roster. The police cannot confiscate because its completely legal. Only new guns are subject to the roster.

Also, the roster only applies to handguns. No rifles need to be "approved" to be bought. But you still have to follow the letter of the law when buying them. Like all the ar's and ak's that have bullet buttons installed to keep them legal

      For what reason?

I was at a gun range once and trying to fit in with the regular shooters there. Once the pistol shoot was done the guys started to bring out their rifles. I was talking to a few and they asked what I did for a living. Once it was confirmed I wasn't LEO, they decided to display their AR-15's that had hi-cap mags, missing bullet buttons, and other stuff.

It was later explained to me that LEO can confiscate firearms that aren't on the CA CERT list. My question is how can they possibly know that you purchased it through a PPT vs. sneaking it in?

I may be confusing 2 things here: firearms that are non-roster and firearms that are non-compliant such as modified AR-15s..

If someone could point me to a website that explains the PPT process for purchasing non-roster weapons that would be very helpful.

Shooting an AR-15 style rifle that's not a registered assault weapon and has "features" is just dumb. That's called a felony as the rifle is in violation of the California Assautl Weapon Law.

Pistols that are not on the DOJ "Safe" list are not illegal guns, they just cannot be sold from a dealer in the state of California to a non-LEO (C&R exempt, of course). If you can obtain a non-listed pistol in a legal way (PPT) you are legally allowed to own and use it.
Alot isn't a word and allot isn't the word you think it is.

I'd really like a Colt 1903 frame, bad finish okay!
I'm also looking for a good deal on a 1911 frame or two for budget/spare parts builds.

One last question. How does PPT work if the current owner is LEO and has hi-cap magazines. Is the owner responsible in getting the weapon CA compliant first before selling it?

Yes, or he could sell it without the magazines.
