I'd take it some good gun oil and a box of 38's and find out what Dirty Harry movie it likes best.

Full underlug I think would be a 586. Google when the first 586 came out and go from there.

If I'm reading correctly they came out in the 80's.

I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Take it out to a nice dinner and a movie. At the movies, see if you can lightly carress it a little. Then, when you get home make sure it's well lubed before you start playing with it.

If it has a rear fixed sight it's a 581. Does it look like this?

Like trashman mentioned, it should be a model 581, birthday should be summer 1988, the model line was introduced in 1980, the 581's were excellent, no frills service guns. Don't see too many for sale any more. Congrats.

If indeed a 581, you've got a prize indeed. They are exceptionally rugged, no BS guns designed and intended to keep cops alive. And they are very good in that role.

Yes it looks just like that picture . So it is a 581 . I got it in the original box unfired for 500$. maybe I did ok. Thought the price was high because it didnt have adjustable sights but bought it anyway. Thanks for the info

You did fine - they'll go for $600 easy without the box. I got mine for $550 a couple years ago and was very happy at that.

I think less than 10,000 were made (don't have the SCSW handy at the moment). They really are the "the ol' M&P on Steroids"!
