Is there a way to make night sights dimmer?

I want to know if there is a way to make my rear night sights dimmer so that the front sight really "pops" compared to the rears.

After watching too many magpul DVDs I'm worried about not being able to tell which sight is which under extreme stress. I dont want to "black out" the rear sights, just make them dimmer, or even make them a different color.

    Thoughts?

Are they tritium? They make orange and green you can order whatever you want. Orange rear sights with a green front or vice versa.

Watch fewer magpul videos and shoot more.

Eck double post. Anyway under stress you will fall back on your training. If you do not practice, the rest of it wont matter anyway.

          Dip the muzzle slightly.

The dot that disappears is the front.

I'll second that...no amount of video is a substitute for actual range time.

The front sight in reference to the rear sight are different sizes, I don't see how anyone can confuse the two. Trijicon does make yellow/green sights if you absolutely must.

While I appreciate the sentiment, I should preempt "get more training responses." I'm not some expert but I have taken a few combat shooting courses and can work a handgun relatively well quickly, this is just something I want to do to get an extra measure of speed and reliability. Tipping the barrel down or thinking about the distance between the dots really just takes an extra instant possibly and I want to remove that variable as much as possible. I'd love to swap the front for an amber dot, but don't want to spend the money or time - hence me looking for a way to dim the rear sights and make the front one stand out much more.

This is why I like dot the i sights and am considering XS sights.

I would just get a different color for the front and rears. Perhaps like yellow rear sights and green for the front. If you see the green one, BAM! You know you have the front sight.

I agree. After using this type of sight for a little bit, I'm confident that I'm not switching back to 3-dots.

You could trade me your bright night sights for my dim ones

I have no idea if this would work, so try it at your own risk.

Maybe try hitting the rear dots with a little clear nail polish? Yes, it's clear, but maybe it would be enough to dim the rear dots so there is a little contrast between front and rear?

Just spitballing. Don't know if it would work.

Start with a little vaseline. It should give the same results as nail polish, but is easily cleaned. If that works for you, the nail polish should as well.

I think I'm going to try something like this. Thanks for the ideas!
