"certain single action revolvers"

im curious, which revolvers are exempt from being on the roster? all single action, or is there a brand/company name that is specifically associated with exemption? ive been looking at a heritage .22 for plinking and im not sure if it would be GTG since its not on the list. it IS however a single action revolver, and after reading the http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/ site, first paragraph says that certain ones are exempt.

I think it is any single action revolver with at least a 4" barrel. Might be 3" I'm not positive but I know there is a minimum length needed to meet the single action exemption requirement.

12133. (a) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a
single-action revolver that has at least a 5-cartridge capacity
with a barrel length of not less than three inches, and meets
any of the following specifications:
(1) Was originally manufactured prior to 1900 and is a curio or
relic, as defined in Section 478.11 of Title 27 of the Code of
Federal Regulations.
(2) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at
least 71/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and
barrel are assembled.
(3) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at
least 71/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and
barrel are assembled and that is currently approved for
importation into the United States pursuant to the provisions
of paragraph (3) of subsection (d) of Section 925 of Title 18

(b) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a
single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six
inches and that has an overall length of at least 101/2 inches
when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled.

Right. The overall length issue was designed to exclude mini-revolvers.

In practice, the types that could fall underneath the length are anything with a short barrel (3.5" for example) and a bird's-head or "Thunderer" type grip frame. I believe some of the Beretta Stampede Marshall series won't make the cutoff. If Ruger had shipped the Montado with a smaller grip frame it likely wouldn't have made it, and when they were using bird's-heads, the small-frame (32cal) with BH grips shipped with the longer 4.68" barrel to make the Cali minimum length.

(2) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at

barrel are assembled.Complete assembled firearm length from barrel tip to handle butt must be no less than 7 1/2"


(3) Has an overall length measured parallel to the barrel of at
least 71/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and
barrel are assembled and that is currently approved for
importation into the United States pursuant to the provisions
of paragraph (3) of subsection (d) of Section 925 of Title 18
of the United States Code.same as 2 with the exception that it must also be allowed to be imported into the US.

(b) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a

when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled.this is more for a single shotty, which im not looking at so does not pertain to me.
