I was wondering if anyone knew what the difference between a beretta centurion and and a beretta 92 fs is. From what I was able to understand the centurion uses the same frame as the 92 fs but uses a compact upper slide. I was wondering if I would be able to buy a standard 92fs barrel and drop it into the centurion slide to make it a full size 92fs. Also which beretta is more desirable to most, the Centurion or the 92fs. Thanks

The Centurion that I had (mid eighties), the barrel end was flush(maybe 1/16" to the end of the slide, it had no 1/2" or so overhang like a 92FS.
I thought the slide was the same. Perhaps a Centurion barrel may make it work.Last edited by checkenbach; 03-08-2010, 9:15 PM. -
Going from my old memory, the full size Beretta FS has a barrel length of 4.9 inches and extends past the slide by .2 inches because you can obtain a 4.7 inch barrel that sits flush with the slide.
I believe the Centurions and Compacts use a 4.3" barrel, and the slide is also shorter so that the barrel end is flush.
The frame for the Centurion is the same height, width. Uses the same grips and magazines.Comment

You are correct sir. Its kinda like a Colt Goverment model vs. a Commander model. The grip size is the same but the slide/barrel is shorter. There are a few people who have put a Centurion slide on a full size 92fs frame and it has worked fine, but there are a couple of subtle differences to the frames. If you go to the Beretta forum this has been discussed a few times over there.Going from my old memory, the full size Beretta FS has a barrel length of 4.9 inches and extends past the slide by .2 inches because you can obtain a 4.7 inch barrel that sits flush with the slide.

Yes a standard (4.9") barrel will fit/work in your Centurian slide. It will obviously stick out of the end of the slide .6" more than your Centurion barrel.
Generally, Beretta people consider the Centurian to be very desirable.Comment

The Centurion frame has a slightly shorter dust cover. Using a FS slide on a Centurion frame will leave a slight gap. Barrel length on a Centurion is 4.29 inches vs 4.9 inches for a FS and will fit in a Centurion slide. Centurions are much more desirable than a standard FS.

As the folks above me stated. YES.
I have 2 Centurions and a handfull of 92s.
Both the barrel and the barrel block will interchange back and forth.
To be clear. I swapped 92 and 96 barrels as I was writing this post.
And yes I can type with my toes.

92FS slides and barrels are available on eBay. Just double check on Beretta forum and decide what you want to do then go for it. I've heard of people doing the 92FS/96 top end swaps too so they can have a gun with 9mm and 40 capability. Works with Taurus PT92/99 also.Comment
