    686 National Match

Just by luck around 1989 or 1990, a friend of mine at the San Francisco Gun Exchange talked me into buying a SS 686 1 of 500 National Match. 5" barrel, non fluted cylinder, Hogue grips. Commissioned by Smith and Wesson to a gunsmith in Sacramento, Bill Davis to be smoothed up and brought to match standards. Anyone know anything else on this model and what it is worth? Has National Match on the right side of the barrel, 1 of 500 on the frame on the right side under the cylinder and a silhouette target of a man with the target rings above the grips on the right side. Just curious

I do not have a value, but your S&W was made in 1989 with the product code 104254. There were in fact, 500 made for Bill Davis.

Thank you and value is not an issue as I shoot it in a PPC league. Just wondering. But it sure is smooth.

the Bill Davis shop in West Sacramento did a very nice action tune on the S&W action...some feel it rivaled a Ron Power action

I have one of these revolvers too. Do you have any pictures of yours? I shoot mine every time I get a chance but I thoroughly clean it after each use. It's a great shooter. One of my most accurate pistols.
