I ordered my Kimber Raptor II today. Too bad its going to take 4-6 weeks But on the other hand I like the idea of getting one that everyone hasnt played with while it sits in the shop.

I really like the Raptor, I handled one at Bullseye a couple weeks ago and the fit and finish are outstanding, truly a work of art. I think you'll be very pleased with it.

I really like the Raptor as well. My buddy Ryan who works at Sharp Shooters here in Torrance, CA is looking into buying one for his next firearm purchase.

Good luck on that, from what I understand there will be no more new TRP's coming to California. They changed the light rail from 3/4" to 1" and the gun has to be recertified for sale in the state and they won't do it (can't do it) as it would now need a magazine disconnect. According to one dealer I talked with, SA cancelled all back ordered TRP's even those for LEO's that are exempt from having to buy off of the "Approved list". This was a large number of guns. We will not be seeing any new 1911's being approved for sale in this state because of the silly magazine disconnect requirement on all new semi-autos.

Is it one that is sitting in stock? If so I may go jump in the car and check it out

Springers are becoming harder and harder to find, I just happend to trip over my Ultra Compact at the local turners, turned out that it was technically used as it was owned by the area rep, but the thing was in NIB condition.

So many sweet guns, so little money!

I bought a Raptor II at the beginning of the year. Very sweet shooting gun, however, inspect the grips pretty carefully before you take it home. I didn't, and one of them split right down the middle during it's first trip to the range. The other one is looking like it would do the same thing. I'm going to bug Kimber into replacing them, but for now, I put on a pair of of python skin ones. I think they actually look cooler than the stock grips. I'll post a pic when I get a chance. You are going to love the gun.

While they do have one in stock, i have a brand new one on hold at an undisclosed location.

And yeah, that sucks about having the be re-certified. Kalifornia requires a manufacturer to spend 80,000 to get it certified. Plus they must submit THREE of each variation (yes.... finish is a 'variation') of the pistol which are NEVER returned to the manufacturer.

This is why there are only 3 Ed Brown pistols available in Kalifornia.

(a) Pursuant to subdivision (b) of Penal Code s 12131, the DOJ shall recover the full costs of
creating and maintaining the Roster of Certified Handguns by collecting fees from
manufacturers/importers of or other parties responsible for handgun models that are listed on the
Roster of Certified Handguns.

(b) Standard Fees:

(1) Initial annual listing fee: $200 for each model

(2) Annual maintenance fee for listing: $200 for each model

(c) Annual maintenance fees are non-refundable. There is no refund or rebate for discontinuation
prior to completion of a full year's listing on the Roster.

I doubt any "Lab testing fees" are $79,000+.

The issue with SA on this one is now this gun which has zero functional change to it must now be modified with a magazine disconnect JUST for the opportunity to pay what ever it costs them to have it certified for sale in this state.... when it is functionally no different than the "old style" gun.

I've been told that it costs roughly $80,000 from an Ed Brown dealer called The Stockade, a guy i spoke with specifically at Springfield, and two fellows at a local shooting range I frequent.

It wasn't an $80k "testing fee" rather the fee for the whole process of getting it through the Kalifornia government beaurocracy here in this state. I'd be surprised if all these sources are incorrect.

Well the shop called today while I was at my flight school. I went there to check out my Raptor, it looks and feels great Now I only have 10 days to go and Ill get to take it home (well after a trip to the range)
