From a VERY unscientific poll on another forum my uneducated guess would be nothing.

Maybe.... but there are some exemptions to the rule, such as private party transfers.

I don't know exactly what the process looks for, but I would expect (perhaps wrongly) that the DROS process would catch it if there were such a conflict.

you wait and pick up your gun on the day they said, im sure they said you have to go in a certin day to DROS yes? Then 10 days after that....

I am a retired LEO. New to Ca. I purchased a handgun on Feb 6 took possession on 16th. On Feb 20th I purchased another and was told to pick it up on Mar2. Did I violate some sort of waiting period? If so what happens next?

If either of the handguns you purchased were private party transfers then the "one per 30 day" restriction does not apply. If both sales were from the FFL dealers own inventory as opposed to consignment, ppt) then one per 30 does apply. So what did you buy - might help us answer.

yes, the 1-in-30 day rule was violated if both handguns came from dealer inventory instead of as a PPT.

CADOJ will probably fail the second DROS as a 1-in-30 violation, and you just have to reDROS it in 30-days. You'll need to pay for a second DROS.

12072(a)(9)(A) No person shall make an application to purchase more than one pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person within any 30-day period.

30-day clock starts when your first DROS was initially submitted.

What the FFL should do if they are good is that they will hold the gun and process the dros after the 30 day waiting period. If they process it before the 30 day, then it will get rejected and you will have to pay the dros fee a second time. Don't ask me how I know that

I'd call them. tell them your circumstance and see if they can wait till march 8 before processing the other one.

If the first gun was purchased brand new and not from consignment.

Basically you waited only 14 days between purchases. your wait time would be the same but as Too Slow said: the application will get rejected.
You will then have no choice but to wait till March 8th approximately.

The Colt Cobra was a consignment gun wasn't it? Consignments are in effect Private Party Transfers and are exempt from the 1 in 30 rule.

If so, the second DROS should go though without a problem.
