Gun Control is like treating the symptom, not the disease. Gun laws only restrict people who obey the law.

    Possible mix and match.

Is the frame Springfield Armory and the slide a Colt or the other way around?

      Info.

The gun is a Colt Model 1911 Military. It was manufactured in 1918, according to the serial number, so it may have just made it into WW1, which ended in 1918. The Springfield Armory stamp means the gun was reworked at the Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA - a government facility that operated from 1777 to 1968. It has no relationship to the modern company Springfield Armory, which bought the rights to use the name after the original Armory closed. It is possible the gun was used in WW2 or Korea. I gather your grandfather was in Special Forces (SF) and it was his issue gun that he acquired when he left the service.

I'm not sure exactly what it is worth, but I would say easily over $1000 because of age and historical interest.
