Beretta Tomcat 3032 range report

Recently I bought a Beretta Tomcat 3032 and took it to the range for the first time today.

The little pistol was easy for me to hold, since my hands are small. The slide was easy to grip and the ridges on the slide would not slip out of my fingers. Racking a round was smooth. The pistol felt well balanced.

The clip holds 7 rounds (bullets ) and one in the chamber. I like the flip up barrel.

4 yards with a 12-inch target.

First round hit low, left missing the outer ring by 2-inches. The next round hit in almost the exact spot, maybe 1-inch off. The next two magazines (clips with bullets ) all stayed within a 6-inch group.

I adjusted my aim and had no problem hitting the bullseye, dead on.
You can call me "Dead-eye Joanne" now.

After shooting 50-rounds (bullets , he he). I only had 4 misfeeds, no misfires, no failure to fires, no failure to eject. I used PMC Bronze .32 ACP.

The misfeeds easily fed into the chamber after pulling the slide back.

Since I'm not an expert, I don't understand why they were not feeding other than that the lip of the casing might catch the ramp? Maybe?
Possibly would smooth out over time?

I looked for the infamous cracking frame after every 8 rounds (bullet thingies ) and didn't see any cracks.

Overall, I liked the little pistol. It was easy to load and shoot. Felt good in my hands and did not have an overwhelming recoil.

I like my new little Tomcat, grrrrrrrrrrr.

My dad has the bobcat 22 lr, and it is a stovepipe, and misfeed machine. After about 40-50 rounds it starts acting up. I would never rely on it to protect my life. It's still fun as hell though with the cheap ammo. I think if you ask anyone on here, 4 out of 50 rounds misfeeding is absolutely unacceptable. Maybe someone with more experience can shed some light on the problem.

Comparing my MP 40 to my experience with the Tomcat, I would say that 4 misfeeds is very irritating. I would agree, unacceptable, especially when I have shot hundreds of rounds through the MP without a single problem.

I sure would like to know how to make it more dependable.

Try different brands of ammunition might be a good start.
I heard Winchester "Silver?" was a good match.

I think trying different types of ammo could help for sure. My dads will catch a round between the slide and side of the barrel. When your target practicing its just a little hiccup but fighting for your life... another thing. I havent had the time to tinker with that thing and get it feeding right, but I just might give it another chance. Good luck, I'm sure someone around here has a better answer than me though...lol

I am going to be sending mine back to the factory in the next few days. I only got to take it to the range once and only put about 60 rounds thru it. I had 1-2 missfeeds like you described every magazine. Then after the 60 or so rounds the frame cracked. I hope you have much better luck with your gun. I think it is a fun gun to plink around with at the range, but I would never cary it as a means of protecting myself.

4 misfeeds are fine on my book. My Kimber did about that during the break-in period.

Gotta smooth out those match build specifications.

Breaking in will help, perhaps another couple boxes of ammo. I like to use full metal jacket ammo for best reliability. I think oftentimes failure to feeds happen with Tomcats from "limpwristing" the pistol. I like to try and make a mental note to try and hold it as much as possible. With the short grip, I think the pistol has a better chance of tipping back in your hands than a fullsize gun would, during recoil. I definitely like the size of these things!! YMMV

I have a Beretta 21 Bobcat. It's not the exact gun as the Tomcat but same design. It is picky with the ammo. It only shoots jacketed ammo. Anything with an exposed lead tip and it will cause failures. Try different ammo, I bet it works better the next time.

My Beretta Neos had some issues when I first got it with stovepipes and FTL. about 400 rounds of break in and it cycles flawlessly now. In fact last trip out I ran about 250 rounds as fast as I could pull the trigger and not a single issue. See if it needs a little break-in

I put several hundred rounds through my Tomcat before selling it and never had a problem.

Be sure to read the manual closely, I think the tomcat is rated for no more than 71 grain bullets, many 32acp are over 71gr.
If you stay have the stainless gun, and stay under 71gr bullets, you shouldnt have a slide cracking problem.

I never had a jam with my tomcat, after a couple hundred rounds you shouldnt have a jam problem.

Assuming its new, a break-in period may be in order. Also, the little pocket guns like 22lr, 25, 32, etc will not be as funtionally reliable as there full size brothers, there is too much mechanics going on in the short length of the slide. Some failures within a clip or two are to be expected.

I've had my Tomcat for many years, (bought it shortly after they first came out), it has been a very good gun. Use Winchester Silvertips, the gun was designed for that specific cartridge, and it will work fine. If it does not, after a few hundred rounds contact Beretta.
