Need help making a decision on a 1911

For the past couple of months I have had my heart set on a SA TRP Operator. I really want this gun. I had seen a couple come up here on Calguns but either I have been short on money or I found them 5 minutes too late and they have been sold. Every gun store I have gone to has told me that they could get them, but realistically the wait on them if they order 1 for me would be about 6-9 months. I have been on gunbroker, and the ones with the full size rail (the only ones on the CA safe list) were being sold by vendors who were not willing to ship to CA and the vendors who are willing to ship to CA only carry the ones with the half rail (not on our approved list). Talk about Murphy's law. Recently (Today) I have begun wondering if I should order one and wait a minimum of 6 months. I mean, is it really worth it? Since they are so rare, I have never seen one in person, let alone shot one. I love my current 1911, a Kimber CDP II, and my brothers SA loaded 1911. I was thinking, maybe I should buy another Kimber or a "lower" class SA 1911. After tax and dros, the TRP Operator would cost me about $1800 and 6-9 months of waiting. I'm just not sure if its even worth it anymore and I'm getting a bit disillusioned. I'm not sure what to do here. Today is the day I'm either going to put some cash down for 1 to be ordered, or "settle" for something else. Anyone have any advice? I don't really want to make an impulse buy out of frustration, but I don't know if 6-9 months waiting for an $1800 gun is worth it. Not to mention, digging through the Market forums here and gunbroker every day. Perhaps I'm just being impatient. Any thoughts gentlemen/woman?

Full size or Bob Tail? The best bang for you buck is the Dan Wesson 1911.

From what I've read the TRP Professional is worth the wait.

The Professional is twice as much as the TRP Operator. My budget maxes out at $1800.

I took about 9 months before I decided on my 1911. DW pretty much doesn't try and re-invent the wheel. He uses the best parts from Brown in his internals etc.

BTW, most 1911's tend to be great guns. It just depends on what you want. I didn't want to spend more than $1200, but I wanted something that was close to a custom. That's where DW fits in. It's definitely well worth a look.

Take your time and just do the research, ultimately, it might just save your life.

Good luck, have fun and know that in the 1911 world, the sky is the limit.

Why d0ont you keep what you got and save yourself 1800$? unless you NEED a new gun cause your old one is unreparable lost or stolen the gun you currently have sounds fine to me for 100% of wehat you want to use it for

IF you really want a particular gun then get that gun. After all why settle if you dont need to?. I think 6-9 months wait is ridiculous. Cant be that hard to pick up a phone call the manufacturer and say Hi I need to order a gun xyz model. here is a payment send it over thanx.

                WOW! Very good point!

EDIT: However, when it comes to firearms, the line between need and want are very dim.

The Sig 1911 Revolution is great. A couple different models to choose from and decent prices when compared to the others in the same group.

Mike ^^^^^^^ beat me to it! The Sig line is excellent and the Smith & Wesson's too especially when you get to your price point level!!!

While I am a fan of the Springfield's (I have two by the way) there are other serious players in the 1911s. As what some have already said, the Dan Wessons are outstanding in terms of value and quality.

There is no need for you to wait that long especially when you have the money now.

I have always liked the Sig 1911s. I like sigs in general. However, I like my 1911s to wear Amercan brands on their slides. There is just something about the historic gun born in the USA to wear a USA brand name.

Just wait for it. You know you're going to be picking it up down the line ANYWAYS. Don't waste your money and pick up something lesser. You'll just regret it down the line. Though for 1800 I'd be looking at new/used Les Baer Thunder Ranch Specials, or saving up for a SA Pro.

If that railed operator is what you want, wait for it. Unless you're like 80 and going to die in a year or two.

I would also have you check out the Sig. Right now Turner's is having a sale on the Sig 1911 GSR Revolution stainless for $949 (buy 2 of these or one operator). It's the updated one (no manhole), beefy external extractor, front and rear checkering, night sights, gi spring (ez takedown). I just bought one and I'm looking at the marvel precision .22LR conversion kit with threaded barrel and a compensator. yep, money savings means more options and upgrades.

BTW the sig 1911's are made in america I believe.

DWs are great guns but hard to find and priced on the high side these days.

You might also want to look into the S&W Performance Center 1911s.

Why not a Baer? For 1800 you can get a Baer that you will love.
