    Desert Eagle in .44

I'm looking to get a Desert Eagle in .44 magnum and Turner's has them on sale right now for $1399 for the Matte. Is this a good price? With tax and DROS, it will come out to about $1500+. Anyone know the MSRP on these deagles?

Also, anyone care to share experiences with their Desert Eagles?

That seems to be the going rate.

One option for you is to find an out of state vendor with a lower price that does not charge sales tax and have them ship the firearm to your local dealer.

Usually the cost savings will depend on how much your transfer fee is locally.

Sounds about right to me. I don't think you'd be able to do an out of state transfer unless you were buying the model specifically made legal for California. And even then, I think some FFLs (or all?) charge tax on out of state transfers.

I love mine, fun to shoot and always gets stares at the range. Possibly because everyone is thinking "What the hell does anyone need that for? What a poser!"

It's finicky about its diet though. I've had some reloads that won't cycle the action and some hollow points don't like to feed. Certainly is a pricey gun to shoot! Fortunately my local range has the best price on .44 magnum and their reloads cycle just fine.

And if you're getting smacked in the forehead with empty casings, you're doing something wrong.

There's one on Buds Guns right now for $1319. I have never been charged tax by a gun store for transferring a firearm in, but I know some do, so check before, uh, pulling the trigger on a deal. Also, most gun stores will charge about $75 for transfer and DROS - so that would put you right around $1399 out the door. BUT I'm not sure if this is on the approved list and don't have the time to look right now...

After 25 years of being accessorized, customized and re-imagined in countless movies, television shows and video games, the Desert Eagle® Pistol has emerged as a pop

i was told rimmed cartridges generally do not feed well in automatic weapons. is there any truth to this?

The Desert Eagle can be finicky, but I think the least of it's problems is that it fires a rimmed cartridge. Having said that, I really want one!

Thanks everyone! Kinda makes me want to get one more!

Does anyone know the difference between the regular and the California model? Budsgunshop has a specific model for us Cali people, and I also checked with the safe gun list. They have a good price for the black model, but their price is a bit more ($1546) for the Matte finish compared to Turner's ($1522 tax inc).

DE's are cool. Don't worry about the rimmed cartridge, it was built for that.
Do worry about quality ammo. Federal Premium, CorBon or anything loaded with 296 or 110 will run in your gun.

These were designed for handgun hunting and IMHSA competition and they excel in that role, beyond that they are an expensive range toy but a lot of fun!

To bastardize the thread a bit:

What kind of accuracy/groups can one attain with this pistol with .44 magnum?

I don't own one, but I have heard about them being finicky and not cycling with certain loads. Love the "awe" effect they give off, but probably won't ever own one.

                        I wish I was kidding...

I'm so terrible with this gun I'm embarrassed to even take it to the range. Sure it's fun and it makes a huge boom, but I really am a terrible shot with it.

I have a single action 44 revolver that I struggled with. Over time, I came from spreading rounds over the entire paper target, to where at 15 yards, I can get 4 or 5 out of 6 on the 5" black. Good days, I'll get connectors. Fkin thing bruises my hand, but it's a crowd pleaser and I enjoy the hell out of it. I had to endure a lot of being laughed at to get there, and I'm still not great with it. Silly as it sounds, I got a lot better with it after I upgraded my ear protection. The thing make a shock wave when it goes off. Now that son, is a man's gun

Put a red dot, easier to aim.
Get 1 piece Hogue grip, easier to control.

CA model has different firing pin plate with extra spring and plunger to ensure drop test pass. Extra spring blocks firing pin from moving unless the plunger is depressed from hammer.
