    * * * * How many guys OPEN CARRY * * * *

    Hey guys,

I've heard & read about some local gun clubs, where members go out in groups and open carry their handguns. They are sometimes hassled by police, or people. However, the idea it to bring the AWARENESS to public that - It Is Our Right to Bear Firearms - and protect ourselves. This has been a highlight in many states, including Ca, and has made a lot of News. It seems people are still not aware that it's legal to carry a handgun on your hip, in a holdster (visible to public)... as long as it's not loaded. You may carry ammo in another pocket, or a magazine (also visible, in a belt holdster).

So, question is - How many people here open carry? How often you open carry? And where do you go with your open carry?

Also, do we have any local Bay area groups doing this? There's a lot of info on YouTube on this... Here's some examples -

Better put your flame suit on.

As of now, it is the opinion of CalGuns that people do not open carry, and you will find that it is also the opinion of many members here. It is a hotly debated topic as many people feel very strongly one way or the other. Just a heads up.

I do not, but I WOULD carry concealed if it wasn't such a hassle and expensive to obtain the permit.

Keeps the antis at the local market and the cops from hassling one without probable cause in my opinion.

Arizona seems to have a pretty good CCW policy, I don't know how much they charge but it seems like no difference than getting a drivers license.

It is about time that we exercise our rights to open carry. Other groups like PETA, Green Peace, Global Warming whatever, nuclear protesters, environmentalist dejeure, anti-religious groups, anti-Christmas whatever, all want to exercise their rights and attempt to get the rest of the world to adapt to their agenda. They don't care about your opinion. I say let's do the same. It is our constitutional right to open carry. How can you be a gun advocate and not support this movement? I want the right to CCW but my local sherrif wants to make it almost impossible. There is no other option.

I would love to, but am afraid of the consqences of un-informed police and a jittery population of gun haters. If I could get a CCW, I would definaltey carry. But, California=anti-gun.

Yeah, but look at how long groups like green peace and PETA have been at their silly protest campaigns and how much they have achieved. The only reason that they got that olympic ice skater to take the fur off of his costume is because someone sent his stylist death threats. I would not want to follow their style. Anyways, look at how much the CGF has already done in a much shorter period of time. I tend to want to heed their advice, they have the track record to prove it.

                        Yes and no.

Unloaded open carry as a political statement or for personal protection?
                        No.

Loaded open carry when in unincorporated county areas where shooting is not otherwise prohibited? Often, for personal protection.

I limit my political "statements" to personal conversations, email, faxes, phone calls, financial support for 2A, and my NRA sticker.

I would say it is also our right to ccw but we are not allowed to because of the law. Open Carry seems behind the times to me, while CCW seems only logical at this time of so many different stands on firearms.

I'd rather not stir the political pot too much and be able to get a CCW easily or be able to LOC in the near future. The more you really think about what a hassle UOC can be, the less it's worth it.

Very well said. I UOC/LOC in areas where shooting is not prohibited. Too many schools in the city. And support our rights! or we will lost them.
