Empty mag not dropping on Para Ordnance P14.45

I cleaned the magwell.
I cleaned the magazine
I tried all my magazines plus after market (Mec-Gar) - standard and 10-round types.
In all cases, an empty magazine will not drop free if the slide is locked back.

It will drop free if the slide is forward or if there are rounds still in the magazine. It can't be the mag release so it has to be something binding up between the top of the magazine and the slide.

Can anyone shine some brilliance in this problem?

I'll have to strip it down and take a look. I'll mark the area with a red Sharpie to see if there's any friction. If there is, then the red should be gone.

EDIT: There is the slightest of rub marks present.



If I polish it up, it may stop sticking.

If the follower isn't sticking or bearing against the slide stop check if the follower is sticking out too far and bearing against the ejector - this is sometimes a problem with extended ejectors only.

I'll take apart the magazines to see if there's any scratches or gouges on the followers. I need to order some replacement springs, so I may have to add new followers to my order, too.

My P14 didn't have this problem out of the box, but it's been over 25 years since it was taken out of the box! I've since put about 5000 rounds through it.
