1911 experts, I need your help.

I acquired two Remington Rand 1911-a1's from my grandfather when he passed away.

My knowledge of 1911's is very limited. I just want to learn more about these 1911's. I dont have any plans on selling them I just want to expand my knowledge.

One of them has had a considerable amount of work done, custom bluing, trigger work, sights, etc.. The other appears to be completely factory.

Any information that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Heres a couple pics. (pay no attention to the mark IV)

Others here are much better experts than I, but from the pics it looks like the original one is in rather good shape, if the parts are all appropriate it should be worth a bit of change. The one that has had all the custom work and refinishing done may well be a very nice pistol (looks like it), but that destroys it's value as a collectible Remington Rand.

If it were me I'd clean and oil them both real well and then sock the original away as a keepsake and enjoy shooting the customized one.

Looks like on the modified piece there are Micro adjustables installed without being milled into the slide, and is the barrel hood and hammer jewelled?
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

shoot the hell out of the modified one and leave the factory one in the safe for your grand kids. they will love you for it just as you surely do your grand father for passing it down to you.

My condolences for you and your familys loss. Those are some really nice looking 11's. May you be reminded of your Grandfather every time you handle them.

Its definitely hammer jeweled, I havent taken it apart to see how extensive it is or what else is modified though. Theres definitely trigger work done and the fit feels much tighter than the original (possibly due to the coating? im not sure)

Maybe ill take it to a buddy who is a gunsmith to see what all has been done.
